NCU, whilst fullfilling the global academic standards, they also provide a holistic-based curriculum. They cater to the spiritual and emotional development of each of its students that study there. Whilst there are areas for improvement, I had options but I’m happy that I choose NCU!
View moreIn my opinion Northern caribbean university is one of the best universities in Jamaica not only do they help you academically but they also help you grow spiritually. The way they cater for students well being is what made it stand out to me.
View moreAs a graduating Accounting major from Northern Caribbean University, I can confidently say that my academic journey has been both challenging and rewarding. The program provided me with a solid foundation in accounting principles, financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and management accounting—each module building toward real-world application and professional readiness.
The Department of Business & Management at NCU maintains high academic standards, and the lecturers are generally knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about their fields. What stood out most was how much emphasis was placed not only on technical competence, but also on ethics, integrity, and critical thinking—qualities essential to any accounting professional.
Strengths of the Program:
• Comprehensive Curriculum: From introductory courses to advanced financial reporting, the coursework was well-structured and relevant to industry expectations.
• Faith-Based Learning Environment: The integration of Christian principles into the teaching environment helped foster a sense of purpose, discipline, and accountability.
• Capable Faculty: Many lecturers went beyond the textbook, bringing in practical examples, real business cases, and occasionally professionals from the field.
• Access to Academic Resources: The Learning Resource Centre (LRC), online platforms, and accounting software training (QuickBooks, Excel, Peachtree) were useful in preparing for the job market.
Areas for Improvement:
• Class Scheduling and Communication: There were moments when communication between administration, lecturers, and students could’ve been more efficient—especially in times of timetable changes, registration issues, or departmental updates.
• Internship Opportunities: While the curriculum encouraged real-world experience, more structured partnerships with accounting firms or financial institutions would significantly benefit future students.
• Career Services: Enhancing career support—such as résumé workshops, mock interviews, and job placement assistance—could better prepare students for post-graduate transition.
Overall Experience:
Despite the usual ups and downs of university life, I am proud to have completed my degree at NCU. The university shaped not just my academic knowledge, but also my personal growth, professional discipline, and spiritual awareness. I leave with not just a degree, but a network of peers, mentors, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a values-based professional.
I would recommend the Accounting program at Northern Caribbean University to students who are serious about their academic journey, want a value-driven education, and are ready to work hard. With continued improvements and modernization, NCU’s Accounting program has the potential to remain one of the region’s top choices.
View moreI attended this universal from 2009-2014. It was my best experience education wise. The campus is big, spacious and beautiful. Their IT department is one of the best as well as their Nurses department. Social nights on Thursdays was always something to look forward to. I did not regret going to NCU and I would go there again looking back at the experience I had. Many say UWI and UTECH are better but they all have their pros and cons. The con with NCU is their food as their seventh day they do not offer a wide range of meat kind for lunch. But you can always buy food from the the Cedar Grove community beside them or go into the town which is just a 15mins drive. I hope you found this review helpful!
View moreThis university wasn’t the first choice for me, however based on different research and feedbacks, I developed a love for this institution. Not only does it want their students to strive academically, but they want us to strive spiritually as well, given the fact that it is a Christian based institution. My programme is really fascinating as it gives us an insight an hands on experience about the health care sector. You get a full feel of what you’re in for in the near future
