A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.
Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.
The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.
One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.
Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.
Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.
Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.
Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.
Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. However, their duration could extend to 4 years if students choose to spend a year in industry between their second and third year, which is a popular option among the student community. Setting placement opportunities apart, the duration of a Management degree depends on three main factors – country, mode of study (part-time or full-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Management degrees in the most popular countries for Higher Education in Europe:
The workload is really heavy, but that’s the only way to prepare students for the job market. Bocconi offers also many services to help students kick off their careers. Overall, Bocconi University Masters Degree is the best option for ambitious students and the best choice among Italian and maybe European universities.
View moreBocconi has been an amazing journey for me, filled with growth and opportunities, both on a professional and personal level. The professors teaching the International Management Master’s are of really high quality and they were able to transfer some much “knowledge that matters”, thanks also to the many teamworking experiences during the course. Bocconi also allowed me to experience a double degree program with ESADE, which taught me a lot both in terms of professional development, as well as allowing me to expand my network of international students even further. Overall, Bocconi unleashed plenty of opportunities I could not foresee before joining the university and that I’m really grateful for and excited to dive into.
View moreAs a first year Masters in International Management student, the global perspective, abundant learning opportunities and networking opportunities were the main aspects that drew me towards pursing my studies at Bocconi. And Bocconi has delivered in full on these promises.
In my classes I have really valued the more application based approach which centres around collaboration with peers from around the world. There are also so many opportunities for learning outside the classroom through supplementary activities, societies, guest lectures and other events hosted by the university!
The networking opportunities and career services are world class. The university regularly hosts events like Bocconi
View moreBocconi University offers an exceptional educational experience, one that I can attest to as a student studying in their Master of Science in International Management programme. The program provides a strong academic foundation in global business practices, while also putting into practice the theory learnt. One of Bocconi’s standout features is its robust networking opportunities, with frequent events, guest lectures, and corporate partnerships that connect students with industry leaders worldwide. The university’s career services and global alumni network open doors to internships and job opportunities at top international firms, making it a great launching pad for a global career in management.
View moreThe quality of the courses is good but the choices of subjects are limited and some of them have very little practical usefulness. For example, HR, M&A and commercial law are taught in a really qualitative way and these courses dont add value to your knowledge when you work
View moreThe University has a strong focus on research and mainly in finance and economics. It doesn’t have a lot of diversity, 80% of students are Italian, 15% germans and the other 5% comes from other countries. Bocconi has a high quality standard so exams are hard and competitive but they are highly theoretical so you have to read a lot and memorise much of the info.
View moreThe Bocconi Graduate School is one of the top and most well-known business schools in Europe. As a current IM(Master in International Management) student, I strongly recommend it to people who enjoy studying or working in a competitive and international environment.
The program structure is well designed. What I like the most are its balanced workload and various extracurricular activities. Normally, there are 4 master classes every week, each of which lasts for 4 hours. For the rest of the week, the school provides different kinds of extracurricular activities such as language classes, cultural studies, or even python training courses. Since this is only my first semester, I believe there is more that has yet to come.
At Bocconi, you will not be forced to follow boring study plans, but rather will be encouraged to reach your full potential. Come to Bocconi and join us!
