What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. However, their duration could extend to 4 years if students choose to spend a year in industry between their second and third year, which is a popular option among the student community. Setting placement opportunities apart, the duration of a Management degree depends on three main factors – country, mode of study (part-time or full-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Management degrees in the most popular countries for Higher Education in Europe:

#1 in Italy, Top 10 in the world

The Bocconi Graduate School is one of the top and most well-known business schools in Europe. As a current IM(Master in International Management) student, I strongly recommend it to people who enjoy studying or working in a competitive and international environment.

The program structure is well designed. What I like the most are its balanced workload and various extracurricular activities. Normally, there are 4 master classes every week, each of which lasts for 4 hours. For the rest of the week, the school provides different kinds of extracurricular activities such as language classes, cultural studies, or even python training courses. Since this is only my first semester, I believe there is more that has yet to come.

At Bocconi, you will not be forced to follow boring study plans, but rather will be encouraged to reach your full potential. Come to Bocconi and join us!

    Economics and management

Very knowledgeable professors, intense course. Provides strong computer skills (such as excel) which are very valuable once a graduate enters the workplace. Bocconi ensures a graduate is exposed to a variety of case studies and real-life examples to support the theory studied. Students will greatly benefit from the thorough curriculum.

A perfect combination between arts and economy

The program is very well done and organized, The study plan includes a wide variety of courses and this makes all the students develop a critical spirit and a wide knowledge of different fields. This course, in fact, is perfect if you like arts and creative disciplines in general but you want to know more about business and how to apply it in the fields of the creative sector.
The professors are all very qualified and always available to help you and to organize office hours in which to discuss the classes or about something you want to know more in-depth.
The campus is great, it is located in the centre of Milan and around it there lot of bars/restaurants where to take a break (or celebrate the end of the exams :))
besides, there are a lot of facilities like a huge library and a lot of study rooms, 3 dining halls and a completely new and very modern gym.

    Not international

Although the university calls itself international, there is about a 10% rate of internationals per class, the professors are majority Italian and do not speak English well. As an international student bonding with people in the class is extremely difficult as the only time with students is during class, and we are about 150 per class.

    Bocconi

I attend Bocconi University in Milan, which is one of the leading universities for management in Europe and the world. The program I chose is management and economics for arts, culture and communication. Due to my artistic side, I really appreciate the extra subjects we have apart from the “classic” management program. For instance, we have the philosophy of art where many books are read and analysed. The professors are good, however, some of them struggle a bit with English due to their Italian origin. Apart from that, the university is very well organised and professional, hence, it is easy to obtain information or help whenever required. The students are international, but of which a big fraction is Italian. There is a lot to study and to prepare for an exam, hard work is needed. In order to have average grades, you don’t need that much effort. However, to have top grades a LOT of studying is needed. Furthermore, Milan is a great city to live. It was a bit expensive but worth it. I recommend Bocconi to anyone who is willing to work hard, but also have an extraordinary university life!

Everything was great ( apart from the covid part)

I really enjoyed this experience because I built a really strong relationship with other students and professors. This fact has permitted me to grow as a person and also to improve my academic background by confronting myself with other people. I would encourage Bocconi to create a new method of exams for online courses (I have experienced it during the covid-19 period) because they could not manage to control and to avoid shameless situations such as software breakdowns just before the exams.

Really good, but not for everyone…

Bocconi University is a great institution with a tremendous history and high aspirations for its students. Without a doubt, if you can face the difficulty level of this university, you are bound for success, but, unfortunately, if you can’t self motivate or even teach yourself the course at times, there is nobody and nothing that can help you get back on track, so that is why I would recommend this university for people that can self-manage and face a high level of difficulty while self-organizing themselves efficiently.

My programme is CLEAM, Bachelor in International Economics and Management. It’s a full insight on the traditional Economic Studies combined with an international approach, always keeping an eye on real-world matters. It’s a very challenging and motivating environment. Hi

    Amazing course

The workload is really heavy, but that’s the only way to prepare students for the job market. Bocconi offers also many services to help students kick off their careers. Overall, Bocconi University Masters Degree is the best option for ambitious students and the best choice among Italian and maybe European universities.

    BIEM programme review

I am a second-year student enrolled in BIEM, studying International Economics and Management. What I really like about the programme is that first of all, it is very complete. The teachers are engaged in giving you useful insights about every single aspect that you may encounter in your future career life. The level of education is very high and demanding. Second of all, the programme is international and puts you in contact not only with diverse people but also with their different cultures and backgrounds. Another thing I love about Bocconi is that the university is very well connected worldwide, and gives you all the tools you need to find jobs and internships, puts you in contact with entities and people who are already in the market, helps you succeed in every possible way. I would warmly recommend BIEM because of the courses taught by extremely good and engaged teachers, because of the community you will have the chance to be a part of, and because of the multitude of opportunities that will stand before you.
