Me being a foreign student on campus is a unique feeling. It’s because our batch is the first-ever international student master degree programme in English in IUAV. Although more than half of the course happened online during the pandemic, we actually started as an in-class programme. University does not provide accommodation which made me roam the island and mainland city before exploring leisurely.

Classes schedule had a few issues in between during lockdown but managed to pull it off. IUAV being one of the old Architecture Universities in Italy has its own pros and cons. But for me, altogether it was a good experience.

I am a first-year student at IUAV University. Urban Planning for Transition is a master’s degree program dedicated also to international students. The course is conducted entirely in English, so you don’t have to speak Italian to be able to apply. Professors are young and passionate, which makes the classes even more interesting and inspiring. The University offers access to complimentary workshops, which are organized in places like Biennale pavilions. Taking into consideration the level of education and unique environment I would definitely recommend this University!

The venue is well organized and the shared spaces are well-kept and pleasant.
The study program could be improved: the three main courses, which I have personally followed, involve the interaction of different subjects and teachers, but practically this interaction does not seem to take place in a coherent way. Although courses are often assigned to prominent teachers, they are not always available and contactable given their engagement in activities outside the university. This manifests itself in interruptions of the program and of the design reviews, which undermines the constancy of the work done by the students.
