University of Pécs (reviews)

My time at the University of Pécs is something I carry with me warmly. Pécs is not a big city, and that’s exactly what makes it special. Because of its size, everything feels closer, people, places, and experiences. You quickly find yourself part of a community where faces become familiar, friendships grow naturally, and the city itself almost embraces you like a family. The streets, cafes, and campus life all weave together into an atmosphere that feels safe, lively, and full of connection.

Of course, like every experience, it has its challenges. Studying psychology there, I sometimes felt the program leaned too much toward being casual, almost like high school rather than a demanding university setting. For those seeking a very rigorous or internationally competitive degree, that can feel limiting. And one very practical point: the degree itself doesn’t hold much weight outside of Hungary without an apostille, so taking care of that right after finishing is important.

Still, when I think back, what stays with me isn’t the paperwork or the occasional frustrations in class, it’s the warmth of the people, the laughter with friends, and the sense of belonging that Pécs gives so easily. Life there has a way of slowing down, drawing you into genuine connections and experiences. For me, the University of Pécs was less about prestige and more about community, growth, and memories I’ll always treasure.

What I love about the university is its diverse student body. It’s a very multicultural community. Academically, I appreciate that it offers students three chances to take exams, providing opportunities to improve their grades. I also value the dynamic student-teacher relationship, as it allows for one-on-one interactions with professors. However, I feel that the university does not offer as many on-campus job opportunities compared to other universities. Additionally, I didn’t like the fact that you can’t defer entry, if you’re unable to enroll, you have to start a new application and pay the application fee again. Despite these drawbacks, I would still highly recommend the university.

I really like about my university, because it’s not in a crowdy city, like Budapest. Everybody is more friendly and everyone knows everyone. I live there in a dormitory, and I can say, that’s the best part of my university-experiense. My professors are mostly kind, helpful and understanding. I would recommend it to everyone.

My honest opinion of PECS University has evolved significantly over the years. When I first started, I faced numerous challenges, including language barriers, a lack of lecturers who spoke English, and insufficient support for learning Hungarian, especially in my department. However, Pécs listened to our complaints and made strides to improve the situation.
If someone had asked me whether I would recommend Pécs while I was still there, I would have said no. However, based on what I see now, I truly believe the improvements are worth giving it a chance. The university has enhanced its resources, offered more diverse course options, and fostered a more inclusive environment.
It’s also important to mention that Pécs is such a peaceful and serene city, which adds to the overall experience of studying there. If the opportunity arises for me to return for a master’s degree, I would certainly consider it, as I believe the university is now better equipped to support its students’ success. Overall, I appreciate PECS University’s progress and look forward to seeing it grow.
