What Is an Art and Design Degree?

Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.
Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.
Benefits of an Art and Design Degree
Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.
In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.
Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.
Art and Design Degree Structure
Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.
The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.

** They have a strong focus on technical and vocational education.
** Most of the lecturers are patient enough and care deeply for the welfare of students.
** Life in Takoradi, WesternRegion, Ghana, where Takoradi Technical University is located, is very very affordable. Though some places in Western Region is expensive, there are other places that are inexpensive too, affordable for both students and professionals in higher ranks, like Takoradi, in the Western part of Ghana.Dislikes:
** Health care is not totally free and health services are not strictly enforced on us, students.
Some of the healthcare services are free but others are charged. I suggest it would be better if the school would charge students fully for the healthcare services by addid extra to the fees. With that, we would enjoy expensive and inexpensive medication and services like health status, eye/ear/teeth check-up, scans or x-rays, pregnancy medications, allergy treatment, severe illness and massages.
Also healthcare check-up result should be monthly requested, strictly from students by assigned health professionals. As well as monthly health talks should be going on in lecture halls to enable students to be conscious of check-ups.** There are no entrepreneurial supports scheme(financials and BDS) for technical or vocational graduates.

Some of the students, who did vocational or technical program, who need entrepreneurial support, should be supported financially(grants) and taken through business development services on their first stage as entrepreneurs.

In my point of view, Takoradi Technical University is the second to none technical university in Ghana. The size of campus may be small as compared to other universities, but more is made out here! The school has qualified lecturers who teach in a practical way to ensure students’ understanding. The school has beautiful sculptures that communicate great meaning. One dislike i have about this school is the location. It is located by a highway, and this poses danger to students. There is also too much noise due to the cars on the highway.
