The passion for technology can lead you to choose the specialisation of Computer Science. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years, the development being so rapid that people are trying to keep up with it.
A Computer Science degree deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of information technology and computers. The scientific part merges with the practical one in various algorithms, information processing or in computational models. This specialisation often aims to study methodological processes, making representations on a computer, storage, or accessing information.
At the same time, the study of Computer Science focuses on the learning of programming languages, which are extremely important for any student. Python, C ++, Java are just a few of the programming languages that are explored in depth by students in order to solve the applications received from the faculty. Furthermore, on the labour market, programming languages are highly appreciated and integrated, being a useful tool for optimal performance of industries.
The most important skill that young people learn following this degree is the use of programming languages. Once they grasp the logic of programming, they will easily be able to master the languages and build or develop WEB applications. Additional skills that are acquired can be: network design and engineering, software engineering, multimedia design. In addition, classical skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving or time management are also gained by students.
According to recent studies, 6 of the 10 best jobs chosen by graduates are linked to Computer Science. These include Web Design, Computer Support Specialist, IT Operations Technician or Database Administrator. Moreover, the employment rate is favourable to the students, being over 70%. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, it is expected that the supply will grow in the future, requiring computer science specialists in any field.
To study Computer Science, students can either pursue university courses or follow courses online, depending on their availability and income. Online or outside-university courses include disciplines such as: Information Systems Management, Game Programming, Web Development, Network Fundamentals. They usually have a duration of 2 years. Although these courses provide important skills in this specialisation, students may be disadvantaged when competing with a student who has a Bachelor’s Degree. Some of the most important campuses in the world include Penn State World Campus, University of Massachusetts, Lowell (The Division of Online Learning and Continuing Education), Saint Leo University.
The Bachelor in Computer Science lasts around 3 to 4 years, depending on the university. Throughout the programme, students acquire mathematical knowledge, theoretical and practical foundation in programming. Some of the subjects discussed are: Computer Programming, Data Structures, Databases, Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory or Statistics. These vary according to the curriculum of the university.
A Master’s program complete the students’ necessary career skills. In this way, they have a greater understanding of computing softwares, tools, packages, and computer architecture.
There are Master programs that can be followed even by those who have not undertaken undergraduate studies in Computer Science, such as those offered at the University of Birmingham for example. These programs can take either 2 to 5 years.
A PhD program is especially dedicated to those who want to research or become university professors and can last between 4 to 5 years.
I am on a twenty four month International Management masters programme at IUBH. I have already done 18 months and have to say that it is one of the best universities offering online learning. IUBH has a very stable digital infrastructure that ensures a smooth online experience. The learning material is fully handed over to the student and one studies at their own pace.
I have discovered that although student engagement is not so active, the qualified and sensitive tutors, who have wide industry experience in their respective fields are always available to provide support to the students. Many tutors have been so helpful in guiding me in my revision for exams. However few have been reluctant in providing such guidance and insist that I work on my own in the revision.
I have also observed that the large international student population at IUBH seems to overwhelm the student office and so enquiries may, occasionally, take long to get a response. However, every enquirer, will definitely get a reply to their issue.
I’ve been enrolled at IU University for 7 months, pursuing an online bachelor’s degree in computer science, and overall, I’m enjoying my journey. The unlimited independence and flexibility are the highlights for me—I can study any subject at my own pace, with materials available from the start. The accommodating professors and convenient live class timings, along with recorded sessions, ensure I never miss out. The journey began on a positive note with the helpful admission team reinforcing my choice. The only downside is the extended wait for exam results due to professors’ busy schedules. Nevertheless, IU University’s blend of freedom and support makes it recommendable.
View moreFirstly, the practical approach is definitely a plus for those like me who want to gain industry skills instead of bookish knowledge. Secondly, teachers are so practical and elaborates everything so calmly and politely…. Staff is also very cooperative
I would highly recommend to choose IU 😊😇

View moreI would like to express my serious concerns regarding my experiences at IU International University. I firmly believe that the university has violated my rights and bears legal responsibility for the following incidents:
Insufficient processing of my sabbatical semester request: Due to financial constraints, I paused my studies from July to December 2022 and was forced to apply for unemployment benefits. Since these benefits are not provided to students, I requested a sabbatical semester, which was initially approved. However, my subsequent request for the year 2023 was not approved in January as requested, due to a late submission. Typically, such requests are approved at the earliest possible opportunity, unless there are compelling reasons to deny them. In my case, there were no such reasons.
Technical error and failure to provide services: During a sabbatical semester, access to university services such as the dashboard and MyCampus is restricted, and the student’s payment obligations are suspended. However, I encountered a technical error that made it impossible for me to access the dashboard. Assuming that my sabbatical semester had been approved at the earliest possible opportunity, as is usually the case, I only realized the error three to four months later when I received invoices and reminders from the university. It is important to note that this technical error was on the university’s side, and the failure to provide services was a direct consequence of it.
Unclear responsibilities and lack of accountability: The university seems to lack clear structures and procedures for adequately addressing errors and complaints. I have found that responsibilities within the university are unclear, and there are no clear points of contact. Despite repeatedly describing my situation through phone calls and written communication, and being assured that a swift change to my study schedule would be made to accommodate my work as a working student, I was subjected to another expulsion without warning or prior notice, even though I had already terminated my studies in Business Administration. This is outrageous. The IU was aware of my situation for several weeks, and never was there any mention of also expelling me from my Data Science program. The first level support is not allowed to give names of responsible persons. All you can do is to wait. If I were the person, setting up a successfully working customer support I would be proud to be known by my name for that. That in the case of the IU nobody wants to be responsible at a higher level is a clear sign of something that is not quite good.
I want to emphasize that I will utilize every available channel to bring attention to my concerns and motivate IU International University to take action. I will exercise my rights and seek legal assistance to ensure that my concerns are adequately addressed. It is regrettable that this escalation has become necessary, but I feel compelled to protect my rights and stand up for a fair resolution. While I am open to being proven wrong regarding the positive reviews that IU has received, I expect IU International University to take responsibility and implement what they teach: good processes, a corporate culture, and customer orientation that align with the current state of time and science.
This situation has been a nightmare for me. I expect IU International University to take responsibility for these incidents and take appropriate measures to rectify the situation. I am willing to protect my rights and take all available legal steps to find a satisfactory solution.
Please be aware that I am writing this review as an expression of my dissatisfaction and determination. My goal is to highlight the urgent need for a resolution and ensure that my concerns are taken seriously.
