I spent some wonderful years at Ilia State University while studying there at BA (major: European Studies; minor: Italian Studies) as well as at MA program (Social Sciences: International Relations).
The most I liked was the sense of freedom, which is so important. Freedom that means responsibility at the same time, freedom that comes from good education, experience and self-development. In addition, I liked the educational process quality, most professors are like good colleagues and friend to their students and it really matters. There are many possibilities for students to have some practice, trainings at public agencies/private companies (for example, I had a training at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and it became an starting point of my following career).
So, I would recommend this University to any student, since it gives good education and a great chance of future development.
Studying at Ilia State University was an overall positive experience, but there were some areas that could be improved. The academic programs were well-structured, and the university provided a good learning environment, but certain aspects of student support and facilities fell short of expectations.
Academic Experience
The courses generally met my expectations in terms of content and depth. The university encourages critical thinking and independent research, which helped me develop valuable analytical skills. However, some courses lacked practical, hands-on experience, and more industry connections or internship opportunities would have been beneficial. The library and online resources were useful, but access to certain materials was sometimes limited.
Student Life & Facilities
The student community was active, and there were various clubs and events, which made the experience more engaging. However, the campus facilities could be improved—some classrooms lacked modern equipment, and administrative processes were often slow and inefficient. Getting timely responses from certain departments was challenging, which made handling paperwork and university-related issues frustrating at times.
Accommodation & Support
One of the biggest drawbacks was the complete lack of accommodation support. The university does not provide student housing or assistance in finding suitable accommodation, which can be a major challenge for students, especially those coming from other regions or countries. Additionally, student support services, while available, were not always efficient, and getting clear guidance on academic or administrative matters was sometimes difficult.
Overall Recommendation
Ilia State University offers a solid academic foundation and a vibrant student life, but improvements in student services, accommodation support, and practical learning opportunities would make the experience even better. I would still recommend the university to students who are independent and proactive in managing their academic and living situations.
What I liked the most was the atmosphere. You would feel at home. If you needed help or had a question you would always find someone helping you does no matter a student or a professor or someone from the administration. All were so nice and so open to go any time. The activities of uni were also something that needs to be pointed out. Kept students always active and participating in many things. From my time here. I was really happy with all.
View moreI have been studying at Ilia chavchavadze state university for foreign languages and culture. It was really the best, ancient university ever and you could get really the best education. But in 2006, several universities were united and named ilia state university. I can’t say that studying in MBA(international relations) was the best decision, because most lecturers weren’t strong enough to teach us…first of all, they have to learn quite well to teach others…and the program wasn’t quite good and planned…instead of international relations, we learned politology. Besides this university was owned by ex-president’s friends,so they were doing madness
