The American University of Paris (AUP) was founded in 1962. It is a private, independent American university in Paris. It is one of the oldest accredited American universities in Europe. 1000 students decided to study at this American-style university, 108 nationalities are represented through being enrolled in programmes at AUP. The liberal arts education in Paris attracts international students with the goal to become global citizens with the necessary skills to succeed in companies around the world. The school offers graduate, undergraduate, cultural and summer programmes. At AUP, the students follow the American pedagogical model of the liberal arts curriculum which allows students to try different academic disciplines before they choose their specializations. Students can also choose from numerous electives such as languages and special interests. Although the university's main language is English, students need to be able to speak French before graduating. The American University of Paris offers scholarships. It awards more than 3 million euros in financial assistance annually. Several types of merit-based scholarships are offered (one of them being especially designed for students who have the International Baccalaureate diploma). The school has a wide network of alumni- around 16000 alumni who live and work in 142 countries.
