The University is rich with history and beautiful Italian-era architecture. It is a melting pot of students from every corner of Ethiopia.
Students often describe the environment as “survival of the fittest.” Competition is fierce, and the grading curve is notoriously tough.
Addis Ababa University is a cornerstone of higher education in Ethiopia, and my time there was alright. As a student in the business and sociology department, I appreciated the emphasis on understanding societal issues from both a local and global perspective. The main campus, Sidist Kilo, has a rich history and a vibrant student atmosphere. The Ethnological Museum on campus was a personal favorite, providing a unique cultural touch to our studies. Professors are highly knowledgeable, though the large class sizes sometimes made individual attention difficult. The student clubs and cultural events, like traditional dance nights, offered great ways to unwind and connect with peers. While the facilities could use an upgrade, the library system and access to academic journals were helpful. Addis Ababa itself is a bustling city that offers a mix of culture, history, and modernity.
