Girne American University (GAU) was founded in 1985 by Serhat Akpinar. The university is based on the American higher education system. It is located in Cyprus, which provides an excellent learning environment. The university is made of the Faculty of Engineering, which includes 7 departments ( Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, as well Automotive Engineering); the Faculty of Business and Economics, the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts, which has 4 departments (Department of Architecture, Department of Interior Design, Department of Graphic Design and Department of Painting); the Faculty of Education; the Faculty of Communication; the Faculty of Humanities: the Faculty of Law; the Faculty of Health Sciences. The school also has a Gradute School of Science and Technology; Graduate School of Social Sciences; as well as a School of Applied Sciences; a Marine School; a Nursing School; a School of Sport and Recreation; and a School of the Performing Arts. The excellent academic education offered at GAU is well-known to students and employers alike. Especially the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts is renowned- it was announced as one of the top 10 Architecture training establishments in Turkey and North Cyprus by the Media Network in 2013.
