The Master of Arts in Asian and International Studies (MAAIS) is a program that truly immersed me in Asia’s dynamic political, economic, and cultural landscapes. CityU may not be globally recognised as other HK-based universities; however, what it lacks in global name prestige, it makes up for in program depth, faculty mentorship, and regional focus.
My class was a perfect representation of the whole Asian political and social diversity, thanks to the input of my classmates from Taiwan, PRC, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, etc., all the debates were fierce but supported with arguments and led by outstanding professors with unique methodologies (Socratic method, fishbowl, live simulation of regional conflict, etc.), and balanced between theory and practice, and/or field work (visit of HK Port etc.).
After graduating in 2014, I secured a position at an international NGO, which provided me with the opportunity to lead lobbying missions at the highest European level.
Additionally, if you have the opportunity, seize this chance to explore Hong Kong. After living in Dubai, London, Paris, Brussels, and other international hubs, none will ever come close to my experience with the Fragrant Harbour 🙂
