Only care about $$$

While the course work and professors are for the most part good (with some exceptions) when it comes to finding a practicum it’s obvious Yorkville does not care one bit about their student’s future career prospects. They would be more than happy to take the fees for a deferred placement while you beg local practices to take you on with no support from the school. While other counselling programs help you secure your program, Yorkville doesn’t lift a finger and they are churning out students so fast that existing placement availability simply cannot keep up. If you want a counselling degree, I recommend looking elsewhere this program is so so expensive and, especially when you consider just how much we have to pay, the administrative and practicum program support is truly horrible. I should have graduated this year but due to no internship availability it will be another year.

I just read your review. I am presently researching the same program. Just curious if you managed to complete your internship and graduate. Does the program not build in 400 hours of practicum into the program? Any more information is helpful thank you.

Hi Kari,
I was enrolled in Yorkville from 2015-2017, ultimately dropping out when I couldn’t secure an internship placement. I strongly do not recommend applying to this school. I walked away without a degree, without a career, and $40K of debt. When I was having a hard time with the internship, I was told to “defer and wait until I get one.” When I asked if the school could help with the internship in any way, they simply told me that it was my responsibility to find an internship. They offer no help at all with securing a position, and there are a lot of graduate students in my place. If I can save you the trouble I went through, then this message is worth it.

It took me seven years to pay off the debt and get myself to a place where I can apply to a proper Master’s program (in other words, one that builds the internship into the program). I hope this helps.
