The University of Calgary offers a strong academic environment, especially in business, engineering, and health sciences. The professors are knowledgeable and passionate, and many courses encourage critical thinking and collaboration. I appreciated the variety of extracurricular activities, clubs, and career support services that help students grow both professionally and personally.
What I like most are the opportunities for hands-on learning through co-op programs and real-world projects. The campus is modern, with excellent study spaces, and its proximity to the Rockies is a major bonus for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities.
What I dislike is that student advising can be inconsistent, it’s sometimes difficult to get clear or timely guidance on course selection, program requirements, or academic planning. In addition, many first-year classes, especially in core areas like business, science, and engineering, are very large. This can make it challenging to connect with professors on a personal level. Another factor to consider is Calgary’s winter, the extreme cold and long winter months can be tough to adjust to; especially for students coming from warmer climates. The weather can take a toll both physically and mentally.
