Inside Scoop of TrentU

My name is Brianna, and I have just recently completed my second of four years of school for my undergraduate degree in psychology at Trent University. A few highlights for me about how the school operates is first offering two different campus locations; Trent University Peterborough and Trent University Durham. I go to the Durham campus, which is much smaller and has a more intimate setting than the Peterborough location. There are pros and cons to this campus as the quaintness of the setting offers more intimate dynamics in terms of relationships with other students, and establishing good connections with professors that could be useful during and after completion of your program. However, this may come at the cost of substantial nightlife activities or other student life as the community of Oshawa is smaller and much more residential than the Peterborough location in my opinion. There is one housing building on site that is mostly occupied by Trent’s international students, and from my own experience, Trent Durham is fairly effective and managing and accommodating international students’ needs, especially over the pandemic by offering extending housing into the summer months for those who couldn’t get back home. The program I am currently enrolled in is fairly interesting and compelling as far as psychology goes, and the professors in my experience thus far have been fairly accommodating and attentive especially navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Trent as an overall organization does a good job at the inclusion of Indigenous communities and even requires a mandatory Indigenous course to be completed in order to successfully obtain an undergraduate degree which is a huge highlight of importance in my opinion. Trent also does a substantial job of maintaining and engaging individuals with their online presence via social media, even curating a separate page on Instagram for upcoming job opportunities for students. Areas of improvement moving forward for the Durham campus, in particular, would include offering more food choices on campus or partnering with local fast food shops (i.e Tim Horton’s, Subway. etc.) to offer more variety of food options to students on campus. Overall, Trent University has been a fairly pleasant experience for me as a student thus far, and I would recommend my particular campus location (Durham) to students who are potentially more introverted, or perhaps who prefer smaller-scale environments if they feel more comfortable.
