View moreThis program is a perfect blend of applied sciences and research-based learning. While gaining hands-on experience during my labs and prospective career advice from my professors, I am able to focus on all the different aspects of learning and proactively begin thinking about my future in the industry of Biopsychology. The student life is incredible, with the campus offering me ample study spaces, outdoor access, and time to unwind between intense study sessions. Moreover, the University of Toronto has a fantastic blend of domestic and international students, with people from all racial and cultural backgrounds finding their common ground somewhere.
The student life is amazing and I really enjoy the engagement I have with my professors. It’s refreshing to come to a university that values lab work and self-management skills as much as UofT does. The entire campus and student body are very welcoming.
This course was delivered partially online in the first half of the semester and then in-person in the second half of the semester. Firstly, this course has a lot of reading per week. Typically 2-4 readings consist of varying pages, normally 10-40 pages. As a native English speaker, I found the readings really hard as most of the vocabulary I have never heard of or learnt of before. That is one challenge that I had when trying to get through the readings. Getting the readings done is one thing, but understanding the reading is a whole other challenge. The last few weeks of this course were my favourite as we had ‘global classrooms’, where we got to hear the stories of people and the projects/works relating to the course. Some of these were inspiring and provided a bit of motivation in how this course is related to several aspects of life. The prof is very kind and tries his hardest to involve the students in each class. The only downside of this course was the online part. You had to maintain 100% focus throughout the classes. I and fellow classmates found that if we got distracted for 2 minutes then we would be completely lost.
View moreThis course was done completely online for the semester. Overall, the prof is a very understanding and supportive person. I asked for an essay assignment extension the day before the deadline and I managed to get a week’s extension on it. She understood the stress of students during certain periods of the semester, and she was open to learning about our knowledge on the topics being discussed. Taking the environmental studies course the previous semester really helped in understand the topics. The prof goes really fast through the class content so you have to maintain 100% throughout each course and make sure you really pay attention to the course readings because they are referred to in each lesson. Some of the topics we covered were deforestation (a lot), land usage, soils, water, land-sparing/sharing, land degradation, agriculture etc.
View moreI have had a diverse selection of courses that I chose for my first year. Being in the International Development program has been a really good choice for me as I am still uncertain about the career I want to go in, hence I have gained knowledge from social sciences perspective to economics, political philosophy and the environment. In each of the courses I have taken, I have been able to link the things I learned in each respective course with other courses.
View moreThe University of Toronto is a large institution that garners world-class education. There are numerous fields one can study and many resources available to students to assist on their journey. I enjoyed my time at the University of Toronto studying Human Biology and Global Health. I gained a thorough understanding and expertise in the fundamentals of health sciences and how I could apply them in the real world.
