I am in the Honours Psychology program with a Research Intensified Specialty. I really love it here, especially the professors in my department. They are all very passionate about their subjects and genuinely care about their students success. The courses themselves are academically challenging but super interesting and well structured. There is a really large selection of incredible topics but unfortunately they aren’t always being offered, some haven’t been offered in years 🙁 About campus life, it’s a very academically focused environment. There are sooo many different clubs and recreational activities but overall it isn’t the most social place. I am also in the co-op program and that isn’t the smoothest process. They have you take PD1 the term before your first work term. So you’re learning how to navigate the system while applications are closing. The content of the courses is super helpful but very heavy and time consuming. It just felt like a big game of catch up, especially having a full time load. Finding a job has been super hard, despite being told my resume is exceptional I got one interview and I know many people who couldn’t even get one and had to forfeit their term. Campus itself is beautiful and constantly upgrading! So overall, I love the campus, courses and everything about Waterloo, except for the co-op process. They also offer so many different ways to broaden your degree like; studying abroad, adding minors and certificates… My absolute favourite part of studying here are the professors tho! They are so inspiring and knowledgeable.
