Great Academic Experience, Poor Administration.
Studying at the University of Buea was a meaningful experience overall. I met many like-minded students, built strong friendships, and learned under dedicated lecturers. Professors like Madam Ayuk Justine especially made my academic journey richer with their guidance and commitment to students.
Academically, UB has a good reputation and offers strong programmes, with opportunities for group work, research, and personal growth. The learning environment and diversity of students help you grow both intellectually and socially.
However, the administration remains the biggest weakness. Processing documents like transcripts, attestations, and certificates is slow and often unreliable. Even after paying for the “fast mode,” which promises one-day delivery, I still received my transcript nearly two weeks later. Many students also complain about delayed certificates, long queues at banks due to payment issues, and inconsistent handling of CA marks. Some students even choose to carry over a course because correcting CA errors is difficult.
The campus environment also needs improvement in waste management and general maintenance, and accommodation around UB is often expensive for students.
Would I recommend UB? Yes but with caution. The academic and social experience is good, but you must be prepared to deal with administrative delays and be very proactive with follow-ups.
View moreUniversity of Buea is one of the best Universities in Cameroon. Known for it’s excellence U.B has graduated a lot of students from its creation to date. They give hands on knowledge to students and practicals. Teaching them on how to face the job market. For instance my program Corporate happens to be one of the most expensive programs but is it worth it, because professionals are hired to give us top notch training.
As long as it is the best, i will say they need to work on students complaints ad far as their results are concerned, it is frustrating. I have been a victim and it wasn’t an easy task for my results to be corrected after 3yrs
The university is really exciting there is a lot to see from the beautiful campus fields and absolutely beautiful scenery. I honestly have loved the experience, but I have to say navigating lessons have been very tricky but with some longevity in the process you tend to have a hang of it. The lectures are clear that’s for sure but some lecturers can make or break you, it is a bittersweet experience. My absolute advice will be never fail a course. It completely ruins your GPA you might not realize it but yeah it took me failing sports and English which by the way where not all my fault.Like I said the teachers will make or break you, my personal experience with the English teacher was that she refused to let me write the Continuous Assessment (CA)because I was “ late” whereas I was held back by another teacher because I had some task to do given that I was a Group leader and we were having presentations that day. So from trying to finish up with the other teacher to running to English class and having my shoe getting bad in the process just to be denied entry was just crazy as a whole, but I’m here now a B stronger in English I am happy but now I have to put in twice the effort to get a first class because of that incident. It’s my last year.😌

The institution has a very lovely campus packed with trees and you could clearly see the Mount Cameroon from the campus.
