Overall, I had a very good experience at IHECS. Its biggest strength is its highly practical and professional focus: lots of group work, projects, presentations, and exercises that closely resemble what you’ll do later in an agency or company. You learn to structure a communication strategy, produce content, pitch, manage deadlines, and it pushes you to excel.
The teachers are generally competent and you can feel a real connection with the professional world. The atmosphere is also quite good: you meet motivated and creative people, and you learn a lot by collaborating.
However, you must be prepared for a very heavy workload (especially with assignments and submissions). The organization can sometimes be a little unclear (instructions that change, expectations that aren’t always crystal clear depending on the course), and since there are many groups, the quality sometimes depends on the level of involvement of others.
Ultimately, I recommend IHECS to those who want a demanding, field-oriented school and are ready to commit fully. If you’re looking for something very theoretical or more “relaxed,” it’s not necessarily the ideal place.
View moreThe Institute of High Schools Galileo (IHECS) offers students of the world a complex and practical schooling. Located in the historic center of Brussels, alongside the famous Manneken Pis, the hotel is housed in historic buildings as well as other modern buildings. The first 3 years of bachelor’s degrees open doors to different horizons ranging from journalism, public relations and advertising. Students have professional equipment and quality premises to carry out their work. Radio broadcasts, photographic and cinematographic documentaries, but also partnerships for advertising campaigns represent very vaguely the complexity of the work required of students during their schooling. In addition, courses are given by renowned professors but also by professionals. The diversity of the approach on the subject is very enriching and allows to better perceive the media world in constant change. The positive point that I come from this school and its provision of materials and premises, quantity and quality required during practical work without forgetting the level required for the theoretical courses. In addition, the school imposes a high level of language from the first year, especially in English and Dutch, contributing to a future both in Belgium and abroad.
