I chose Hasselt University because of the unique joint Master in Energy Engineering Technology with KU Leuven—one of the few English-taught programs in Belgium that truly bridges academic theory with hands-on industry experience. Working with real projects and cutting-edge labs like EnergyVille has been incredibly rewarding, and the professors’ close ties to the energy sector bring real-world relevance into the classroom. Adjusting to a new education system and settling into life in Belgium wasn’t always easy—language barriers and paperwork were challenging at first—but the supportive environment, approachable staff, and friendly city of Hasselt made it easier to adapt. Looking back, the mix of practical learning, strong academic support, and a welcoming international atmosphere has made this a truly valuable experience.
