UAM has been one of Spain’s most outstanding higher education institutions. The UAM has been placed first amongst Spanish universities by The Times Higher Education Ranking Supplement, the El Mundo University Supplement and by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid was ranked within top 51-75 universities in the world in the subject of Mathematics, and appears in the top 12 in Europe by the “Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 University Rankings”.

The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid obtained the 49th position in the world in 2012.In another comparable ranking “QS Top 50 Under 50” it was included in the Top 50 universities in the world. Its Faculty of Law is the most prestigious one in Spain. It has become the Spanish university with the most researchers among the most cited universities.

The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid offers an extensive range of studies. The UAM is organized into eight schools, and several affiliated centers, like the Red Cross University School of Nursing and the ONCE School of Physiotherapy.

The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid counts with more than 25.000 students, and it has two campuses: the prestigious Faculty of Medicine, close to Madrid´s La Paz Hospital, and the Cantoblanco Campus, which is situated 15 km to the north of Madrid. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has a sports complex, Music and Language Learning centers, student residences and a Doctoral School.

Students at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid enroll primarily in undergraduate degrees (77%), while the postgraduate degrees have a smaller number of enrollments per year (23%).

The UAM also has different agreements with other institutions, and it is included in the framework of the Campus de Excelencia UAM-CSIC.
