How An Online MBA Will Turn You Into a Future-Ready Leader

02/03/2026

Want to boost your skills with an MBA, but don’t want to take time out from your job to study – or move abroad? An Online MBA means you can study the same comprehensive MBA curriculum from anywhere in the world, enhancing leadership skills and networking while studying alongside your current job.

The Online MBA at Alba Graduate Business School in Greece is a 28-month, part-time programme taught 100% online. The programme, accredited by AMBA,  attracts students from almost every continent – as far afield as Qatar, South Korea, and the USA – and prioritises learning flexibility, with most lectures taking place asynchronously.

Alba offers another advantage that other flexible European MBAs lack. The business school is part of the American College of Greece, the oldest and largest US-accredited college in Europe. As a result, students gain a degree that is accepted – and respected – in the US, as well as Europe.

To find out how the Alba Online MBA helps students become successful leaders of the future, we spoke to Emma Kook, a current student, and Dr Konstantinos Samiotis, Director of the online programmes at Alba.

The benefits of the Online MBA at Alba Graduate School of Business

Emma was born and raised in Bermuda in an international learning environment. A few years after graduating from her Bachelor’s in Economics from Wake Forest University in the US, Emma, now working as a financial controller for a software company in North Carolina, realised an MBA could be the next step in her career.

“Alba offered something fundamentally different in terms of a genuinely global classroom with diverse perspectives and faculty deeply engaged in international business discourse,” she says.

Emma was aware of the relative cost of MBAs in the US, which is widely regarded as home to the world’s best programmes. At Alba, future-focused, flexible MBA learning is offered at a much lower cost, totalling €9,950.

“When researching MBA programs in the US, I was budgeting over $100,000 to complete a comparable degree,” Emma notes.

“Alba provides an academically demanding and internationally rich programme at a fraction of that cost. The combination of rigour, accessibility, global exposure, digital relevance, and US recognition made it an easy choice.”

The value of flexibility in an Online MBA

Emma knew she wanted to continue in her financial role in the US while pursuing an MBA. The Alba Online MBA made this possible by allowing students to access learning materials in their own time, in addition to live sessions, scheduled outside work hours.

“This blend ensures meaningful interaction and engagement while avoiding rigid schedules that could disrupt professional or personal life,” explains Dr Samiotis.

“Each course begins with a non-graded onboarding week to support smooth adaptation, while real-world cases, simulations, and hands-on tools ensure learning is immediately applicable to professional practice,” he adds.

For Emma, the time zone difference between her home in North Carolina and Greece did occasionally mean late study sessions.

“There were occasions when I needed to attend live classes at 3 am due to the time difference,” she notes. “Some of my favourite moments were the late-night group discussions where theory suddenly ‘clicked’ in relation to real business scenarios, particularly when discussing digital transformation and emerging technologies.”

Thanks to the flexible, part-time format, Emma could also go to work each day and immediately apply the skills from class – something that made a difference straight away.

“As I progressed through the programme, my expanding knowledge and strategic thinking became increasingly visible in my work,” she notes.

“Whether evaluating systems, considering automation, or thinking more strategically about long-term growth, the frameworks from the MBA strengthened my decision-making in real time.”

Gaining future-focused skills

The Online MBA at Alba also appealed to Emma because of its focus on in-demand digital skills.

“In today’s rapidly evolving environment, understanding digital ecosystems, innovation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies is no longer optional; it is central to leadership and competitiveness. Alba demonstrated a clear commitment to preparing students for that reality,” she explains.

MBA students can choose a specialisation in Digital Transformation, during which they’ll explore topics such as the digitalisation of the economy, technological disruption, and digital strategy.

The MBA culminates in the capstone Business Project in which students work in groups to complete an immersive simulation game. They’ll need to assign roles, make decisions, submit a business plan, and report to a simulated board.

“We were not just studying established theory,” says Emma. “We were analysing ideas and technologies that many other professionals and peers outside of the MBA had not yet encountered or heard of.”

While some students may be wary of trading a traditional on-campus programme for an online learning environment, this format offers distinct benefits – especially for the future of work.

“The group work, in particular, mirrored real-world leadership dynamics. Collaborating across cultures and time zones strengthened my communication skills and adaptability, both essential in an increasingly global and digitally connected business environment,” Emma says.

From online learning to the real world

While Alba’s Online MBA allows students to collaborate and receive guidance from professors virtually, it also offers the opportunity to meet in person on the Alba campus in Athens. Emma cites this experience as one of the highlights of her MBA.

“It was incredibly special to meet classmates and professors face-to-face after building friendships online. I also appreciated how thoughtfully the event balanced academic sessions with social connection, allowing us to engage in a more relaxed and personal setting,” she explains.

“These gatherings deepen relationships, strengthen belonging, and transform online collaboration into a lasting learning community,” adds Dr Samiotis.

Not only did the Online MBA at Alba equip Emma with valuable skills for her current role, but it also helped her advance more quickly within her company.

“Ultimately, I was promoted into my goal position of Financial Controller before completing the degree,” she says. “This is something I genuinely attribute to the confidence, structure, and digital fluency the MBA gave me.”

In particular, she says that the Online MBA at Alba Graduate Business School would be particularly valuable to other US professionals.

“Many are unaware that a programme of this calibre exists, one that offers meaningful integration of digital strategy and emerging technology alongside traditional business foundations, all while being US-accredited,” she concludes.
