What Is an International Business Degree?

Globalisation strengthens the connection between companies from all over the world. It is time people understand the importance of international business.

International business degrees are shaped to give students practical knowledge about different business management practices from all over the world. In addition, candidates are prepared for business careers abroad or in organisations that are engaged in business on a global scale.

Moreover, international business is vital in order to understand different cultures and mindsets and ultimately become a global citizen.

Benefits of an International Business Degree

A degree in International Business prepares you for a job in a culturally diverse business environment, which means that any graduate can benefit from opportunities in any country.

The advantage of an International Business course is that you are highly employable for most industries since the majority of skills acquired are transferable.

Candidates studying international business will also gain information and insight about the difficulties of starting and growing businesses from different countries, something which is of utmost importance for anyone who wants to make their business thrive.

International Business Degree Structure

International Business is usually a three-year commitment, depending on each university. Lately, there are institutions which offer the possibility of having a ‘sandwich course’, which basically enables the candidates to work abroad for one year in the industry, as part of their studies.

The purpose of the ‘sandwich course’ is to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and work in a different culture and environment. In this way, they will understand other mentalities, as well as gain relevant working experience in the field.

    Diversity/ Inclusion

I enjoyed my experience thus far at Columbia University. There is suprisingly an overwhelming amount of diversity and inlcusion provision programs and activities done by the university. I appreciated seeing this coming in from a community that was predominantly white. As a person of color, I did notice that much of the staff had very little representation of myself as a black woman. Most representation is within the cleaning, sanitation, and cooking positions. This is one thing upon my peers and I that we have noticed that does not help with the representation of people of color in high fields of society.

    Columbia Law School Review

It has very well-educated professors who are experts in their respective fields, so the quality of learning is quite high. They challenge us to think and read beyond the surface, and to engage with the material in a more meaningful way. The classrooms are spacious, well ventilated/heated, and are equipped with microphones to help enhance the students’ and professors’ audibility in class. The campus is gorgeous! Always clean and full of beautiful scenery. Overall, Columbia is an amazing school

Life on campus can be stressful

The best thing about off-campus living is how much more expensive it is than living on campus. The dorms themselves range from spacious studios with Hudson views to tiny, claustrophobic double rooms. Private bathrooms are uncommon, and the best lodging is often reserved for upper-class students (although there are plenty of great freshman options, and Columbia offers you the rare opportunity to live like a single freshman). The majority of dorms are conveniently close to school (up to 15 minutes by foot), and many of them include classic Columbia and city architecture. If you don’t obtain a big number in the house lottery, it can be difficult and highly stressful. The majority of dorm rooms lack adequate kitchens.

Columbia University - Ivy League Status

In addition to showing Columbia’s Ivy League status, the campus environment instills a sense of campus pride in students. The presence of Low Library, Butler Library, and the Alma Mater Statue right in the heart of campus burns loyalty in the hearts of students. Tuition fees are incredibly high, but the experience is worth what you pay. The staff are always helpful and most teachers have an open door policy, which makes it easy for students to approach and ask questions. Classes are generally small, allowing more attention to be given to each student, and teachers are happy to answer questions. In fact, when no questions are asked, the professors seem disappointed! If you can afford it or get a scholarship, Columbia University is a good choice.

Living on-Campus - Stressful, Varied Options

Stressful lottery, varied options, cheaper than off-campus – Living on campus is great because it’s so much cheaper than any of the other off-campus living options. The dorms themselves range from large studios overlooking the Hudson to small cramped double rooms. Private baths are rare, and most of the best housing options go to upper-class students (although there are plenty of great freshman options, and Columbia offers you the rare opportunity to live like a single freshman). Most dormitories are within a reasonable distance of campus (up to 15 minutes on foot), and many showcase historic Columbia and city architecture. The house lottery is a bit complicated and very stressful if you don’t get a large number. Kitchen facilities are poor in most dorms. Best option: Watt studio singles. Worst option: McBain Double (mostly college dorms).

    Columbia College Dining Options

It’s generally nutritious (except at JJ’s) and takes into account dietary preferences, and while (like any canteen food) it ages quickly, dining rooms will sometimes surprise you (Ferris fish tacos, surf, and turf). Honestly, while I’ve rarely eaten really well, I’ve eaten very few meals that tasted bad – usually ranging from bland but edible to pretty good. The Ferris pasta station is always an option. The main downside to eating on campus is that the meal plan is quite expensive, especially compared to the many great, practical restaurants in Morningside Heights. However, after eating at other colleges and hosting friends at other colleges, I can say that Columbia’s dining options are far superior to the vast majority of college campus food, including most other expensive private colleges.

    Expensive tuition

I attended Columbia University, saddled with one of the oldest and prestigious Ivy League schools, and Columbia has created an atmosphere of ambition on campus that makes you involuntarily work harder and aim higher. Whether academically or socially, there is always someone willing to help you. It has few downsides, except that the tuition is a bit expensive. But that’s not his fault either, it’s mine.

    Columbia University

I was looking for a nice college in the United States for my Master’s degree and realised that because of my good grades, I should go for a top college and try my luck. I actually got the chance . I was so happy and excited. Lecturers are way too supportive. Assisting me in becoming more creative and knowledgeable in this area.
But because of the small batch size, it was very simple to interact with professors.
The university organises a variety of events such as the Career Expo, cultural events, and sporting events.
My course is so creative too. I am studying business. I am getting broad knowledge of the business world. Hoping to start up my own business.

    Respect

Columbia is a university that respects the rights and differences of every kind of student. As a Chinese student here, I always feel a warm and equal environment to study and communicate with others. The campus is located in Manhattan, New York which allows us to contact a very special commercial world in the US.
