It’s hard to pass, let alone good grade, in good programs (I am doing economics and business, IBEB, the freshmen passing rate was 60%). However, if you do manage to stay and also use the numerous opportunities this uni offers (student/study associations, societies, career days and business cycles), you get the feeling all the doors are open for you. Maybe its the university with ambitious students or the city with far-reaching plans and views, but the fact stays the same: you grow wings here.
There still are quite a few drawbacks, which need urgent improvements. Firstly, the study spaces are insufficient. They have opened Polak (basically a building for self-study), renovated the library, enlarged the Sanders Building. However, meanwhile they have disproportionately increased the intakes of most of the programs. It’s hard to find a study space, let alone a nice one with silence, light and comfort. Secondly, due to exponentially increasing capacities of the international programs like IBA, IBEB or IBCoM, the housing situation becomes a nightmare for the internationals. It’s scarce and totally overpriced. It’s usual to pay about 550 euros monthly for a room not too far away from uni. It’s just sad. The university is trying to solve this by building new living spaces, but it’s definitely not enough. Creating 220 new rooms in 3 years, while increasing the programs by about 1000 places meanwhile is not okay. Once again, disproportionate.
