Globalisation strengthens the connection between companies from all over the world. It is time people understand the importance of international business.
International business degrees are shaped to give students practical knowledge about different business management practices from all over the world. In addition, candidates are prepared for business careers abroad or in organisations that are engaged in business on a global scale.
Moreover, international business is vital in order to understand different cultures and mindsets and ultimately become a global citizen.
A degree in International Business prepares you for a job in a culturally diverse business environment, which means that any graduate can benefit from opportunities in any country.
The advantage of an International Business course is that you are highly employable for most industries since the majority of skills acquired are transferable.
Candidates studying international business will also gain information and insight about the difficulties of starting and growing businesses from different countries, something which is of utmost importance for anyone who wants to make their business thrive.
International Business is usually a three-year commitment, depending on each university. Lately, there are institutions which offer the possibility of having a ‘sandwich course’, which basically enables the candidates to work abroad for one year in the industry, as part of their studies.
The purpose of the ‘sandwich course’ is to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone and work in a different culture and environment. In this way, they will understand other mentalities, as well as gain relevant working experience in the field.
The work load on student are so much, and much interest is placed on passing examinations than actually getting the required knowledge.
Students should be freely allowed to ask for a proper review of their results without consequences.
While University of Uyo, Nigeria is an okay learning institution, there are quite a number of issues that plague the institution which inadvertently stifles the development of students. Among these are:
A) Lack of appropriate infrastructure – For a University that has an average of 100 students per level across all departments, students struggle to cope due to the slow pace of infrastructural development. Each department cannot boast of class rooms that accommodate all the students, where such classrooms exist, they are often in a state of serious disrepair.
B) Curriculum advancement – Lectures are heavily reliant on curricula that are no longer applicable today. Instead of advancing along with the rest of the world, a lot of lectures are based on theories that were essential only until the last technological era.
B) Lack of Modern Tools – Many classrooms still employ whiteboards and lectures are largely analog, effectively hampering the rate of growth of the students.
Aside from these, the University is largely unbiased towards both students and lecturers regardless of age and background. The management of the university also deliberately make efforts to foster understanding among students from different backgrounds.
This has resulted in a greatly harmonious learning environment.
So far, my experience at the university of uyo has been quite disappointing, to be honest. The institution is quite below standards. The student life here is very stressful and annoying. Poor facilities and classes as well. I really wouldn’t recommend it.
View moreThe University of Uyo has one of the best learning conditions a university could offer, with well-built lecture halls, amazing lecturers and professors. Well-built accommodations for students and also amazing extracurricular facilities.
View moreUniversity of Uyo is a really good institution. It is located in a conducive environment. Lecturers do their jobs almost perfectly. There’s light in the hostel regularly except during the weekends and it’s terrible.
View moreLaw is a quality program here with good prospects, the teachers here are serious with job, classes are actually comfortable to be in. What I don’t like here is the accommodations, I think they can improve on that. Student life here isn’t too stressful and the facilities are very decent. Also the location is good. I would recommend.
View moreUniversity of Uyo is one of the best universities in Nigeria. The quality of academics is splendid. The teaching and learning experiences are excellent. But there’s need for more foreigners to be offered admission for effective integration of many cultures.
My program is definitely one of the best programs this institution have and the journey so far has been great. If there’s anyone out there contemplating on which institution he/she should attend, I strongly recommend university of Uyo. It is the best.
University of Uyo is the only federal university in Akwaibom state and it is relatively small in respect to the infrastructures and the facilities of each of the departments and faculties. However, the institution is working on a larger project which will eventually become the permanent site as faculties are gradually moving to the new location.
Most of the students live off campus because of the limited accommodation in the hostels
