While University of Uyo, Nigeria is an okay learning institution, there are quite a number of issues that plague the institution which inadvertently stifles the development of students. Among these are:
A) Lack of appropriate infrastructure – For a University that has an average of 100 students per level across all departments, students struggle to cope due to the slow pace of infrastructural development. Each department cannot boast of class rooms that accommodate all the students, where such classrooms exist, they are often in a state of serious disrepair.
B) Curriculum advancement – Lectures are heavily reliant on curricula that are no longer applicable today. Instead of advancing along with the rest of the world, a lot of lectures are based on theories that were essential only until the last technological era.
B) Lack of Modern Tools – Many classrooms still employ whiteboards and lectures are largely analog, effectively hampering the rate of growth of the students.
Aside from these, the University is largely unbiased towards both students and lecturers regardless of age and background. The management of the university also deliberately make efforts to foster understanding among students from different backgrounds.
This has resulted in a greatly harmonious learning environment.
