My university is in a great nature environment. It offers great future aspects with fine professors and a great educational level. I would recommend it to anyone interested in after-high-school studies.
View moreI finished an integrated master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The only good thing I have to say about the programme is that the academic level of the degree is pretty high. But every other aspect of academic life is terrible. Labs are understaffed and lack supplies and the classrooms and buildings are very old, dirty and in many places destroyed to the point that they might be dangerous. It is a very rare case that a professor will be a good person that actually cares about his/her job. Finding opportunities to continue your career after your degree is something you have to do on your own and none will assist you or provide paths for you. Overall, achieving my degree was a very difficult and exhausting journey and if I could summarize it I would say “It’s not worth it”. There are other schools in the University and other Universities in Greece and Europe that might share some problems with my school but at least there are people working there that actually love their work and want to cooperate with the students to build their future together and improve the science.
View moreI am Giannis Kotsiris and I am studying electrical and computer engineering in University of Patras. I have graduated here since 2019. The ece part in Patras is one of the best in Greece and has a lot of opportunities
View moreMy experience for the past three years is good overall. The pandemic has affected negatively my studies, as I have found it much more difficult to stay involved when I’m not present in the university, and I don’t feel empowered to do so as well. The university and professors on the other hand haven’t adjusted well to the online environment, as after 3 exams periods there hasn’t been found an effective way of examing the students. Something very positive about the university is the other ways you can get involved, apart from your studies. There is a large number of student associations present in the campus, and that helps a lot of students, including me, staying involved, in both the live and the online period. Also, there are many seminars to attend that can improve both the hard and the soft skills of the students. Finally, something I enjoy a lot is the student life Patras has to offer, although it is my hometown. Overall, I enjoy my studies at the University of Patras, and I’m looking forward to returning to the campus.
View moreThe department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is considered as one of the most challenging departments in the University, and there is a lot of workload for the students. The professors are generally helpful, but there are many who do not really seem to care about their students and it is very difficult to come in touch with them. However, the academic content of the courses is quite decent. During the COVID-19 quarantine, most of them continued the lectures online after a few weeks, but there were some that refused to provide online lectures, so they demotivated the students.
The University is located a little bit outside the center of the city in a very quiet and beautiful environment, but I cannot say the same thing for the dorms and the facilities of the University. Some buildings are very old, there are just few large auditoriums so sometimes there is not enough room for everyone and the labs in my department are not as modern as I like, especially for my field of studies.
I should also mention that as a student, you have the opportunity to join several student groups, sports, music, dance and photograph teams and share your passion with other students, and apart from those, as a student in Patras you will definitely have a great time!
The ECE department is good enough to learn and it gives you a lot of opportunities. There are a lot of activities to do with organizations, clubs and teams too. The problem is that most professors do not care if the students learn or not. Professors are not getting evaluated by anyone so if someone doesn’t do a good job, they continue working on the same position. A lot of them, they do not cooperate and if you have questions they do not want to help you. Also, some of them speak rudely and make you uncomfortable. They are the reason many lose interest in this department! On the other hand, we have some really inspiring professors, though a few, they help you a lot and keep you motivated! They just love what they do! Overall I have mixed feelings about this department and I have caught myself thinking to drop this university and go to another one with better professors and climate, but this one is free and also it has opened me a lot of opportunities as a student through the students’ teams and organizations! So that is why I will continue to study here!
View moreThe study program helps you develop soft skills and hard skills. There is a vibrant group of student volunteering associations that helps you build your social skills. The location is very good and the facilities are satisfying.
View moreUniversity of Patras is established in a beautiful green location at Rio, Patras, and you can easily reach it by bus or by train. Its facilities are adequate and most of the professors are remarkable, with many distinctions in their CV.
Also, student life at Patras is greaaat due to the beautiful bars, restaurants and other places for having fun- for all tastes, both noisy and quiet places- in the center of Patras, but at Rio as well.
In the university of Patras, the courses in my field of “Electrical and Computer Engineering” were as I expected them. The level is normal in the beginning so that everyone can adjust after school and then it rises a lot. But everything is done gradually and if you really follow the lecturers’ at the same time and do your part at studying it can be okay. I didn’t like the introductory courses that much which included a lot of maths and I think most students would feel the same as me. But you will actually realise the necessity of them later. The courses are very interesting.
The books are free for all students and everyone has access and can borrow a book from the library or use a computer.
The facilities are .. I would say just okay when it comes to technical support. There is a slight problem with space though because we are many students and the rooms and the amphitheatres where the lectures are delivered are rather small and sometimes you have to arrive pretty early if you want to have a decent seat.
Overall, I would recommend my university to a friend because I think it really offers a high level of knowledge in Electrical and Computer Engineering and students that graduate have surely some potential on further development and also skills to find a job.
I like very much this university. I do great student life, the location of the university is great and I learn many things surely from my faculty. Obviously, I recommend it to everyone!!
I wish to everyone a great student life!
