What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

    Great university

I was an Erasmus student of UPEC for a year. My experience there was unforgettable, I always felt welcomed.
The university buildings had good conditions, with a comfy and big library. The professors and staff were, generally, very nice and helpful. Also, in terms of location, there was a metro station really close to the university and good facilities.
As an improvement, I would say the food at the university restaurant could be better and the International students’ office should improve the communication with the students and its availability to solve some issues.

Multinational University with Good Facilities and Professors

3 years ago, I decided to get out of my comfort zone in order to live a completely different experience abroad. With that in mind, I chose Université Paris-Est Cretéil as my “Erasmus home” for 4 months, so I integrated the International Management Course. During that time, I was able to meet people from all over the world, my classmates were from different cultures which allowed me to understand and open my mind to different traditions and habits. At the beginning we had some homecoming events to integrate all the new foreign students and showing us the university facilities as well (which, by the way, are in excellent condition.)
Something very important and an incredible opportunity that everyone should take advantage of, if they choose UPEC, is the fact that they offer free languages courses with amazing and helpful professors, always concerned with making us feel great and integrated.
However, I couldn’t help mentioning, (and maybe it’s the only improvement to highlight), how difficult was every time we tried to get an appointment at the international student’s office, leaving us a bit lost sometimes.
In general, Paris is such an incredible city full of beautiful views, bright places, delicious cuisine and an exquisite architecture. Studying there for 4 months was totally a great experience, a decision that I don’t regret at all.

    The Highlight - Cultural Diversity

Although my time at UPEC was temporary – 6 Months during my Erasmus Program, I developed a big connection with the school.
I integrated the International Management course, which integrates a wide variety of subjects from Management, to Marketing, Supply Chain, Economics, and Business, giving us a deep understanding of what each department of a company does.
Something I found interesting and of extreme importance was our Bussiness Abroad class, where we learn the do’s and don’ts when we are working with another country, it helps us understand and respect each culture and each tradition.
Overall, the teachers were really helpful, the facilities were new and the only improvement I would suggest is the international students’ office – really hard to get an appointment, lack of homecoming activities to integrate new students and no follow-up.
The highlight was the cultural diversity in our course, you could meet classmates from all over the world, as more than half of the students in the class were foreigners. It opens our minds, our horizons, it encourages acceptance and helps prepare students to thrive in an exponentially diverse world.
