I was living in the dorms when I tested positive for COVID-19. I called the residence service people and was surprised by how calm and polite they were. I was panicking and feeling a little uneasy as I didn’t want others to get sick because of me. However, the staff responded very kindly and helped me feel more at ease. I have given an isolation room the keys to which were put in my mailbox. They also put a self-care package with some Tylenol, tissues, hand sanitizers, masks, chocolates, and a sweet get-well-soon note. I headed to the isolation center. The room was like a hotel room. It had a mini-fridge and a microwave. It helped me make some ramen when I felt hungry. The residence services got me in touch with the food department, which organized my food delivery. I had to fill out a form each day, ticking what exact food items I want for lunch, breakfast, and dinner. They would deliver the food in front of my door. The food would be sent from the MOD (UVic dining hall) and the money would be deducted from your one-card meal plan. Staff from the Wellness Centre got in touch with me regularly to make sure I’m doing okay. Overall, UVic’s staff and service helped me heal quickly. I felt at ease and was relieved to received the support and care that I did during this time.
