A welcoming place, with a lot of opportunities!

A multicultural university that embraces you regardless of your ethnicity, race and other beliefs. Teachers and overall university staff is very supportive and helpful. However, I have noticed that students here are bit introverted so you need to go an extra mile if you want to make friends. Overall, it is a good university, which offers a lot of opportunities to grow and learn.

I’m studying in UOL remotely, from my country Pakistan. I have taken this decision so that I can continue to serve my community while studying. The university has provided with amazing academics and opportunities, in curricular and co-curricalar activities. Although, the decision to stay back has cost me an enhanced campus life.

    Law program

The law programme is very flexible. It’s organised in a way that allows students to study around their schedule. There are are different routes which allows people to acquire degree. I will recommend it to others.

    Disappointing

Nice programme, disappointing delivery methods with professors always striking/not showing up to class. Could improve so much if only the professors would be coherent with uni policies.
Overall not bad but not worth the money paid as an international student;))

    Law Programme

The Law programme was generally easy to understand due to the good lectures at the faculty and resources that are provided by them. Programme was good but as you know there is always room for improvement. Recently the university has opened new law building which is good for the law students. Overall the environment for the international students is supportive and students have plenty of activity to do at the campus such as they can join different respective societies. Overall my experience was good at City university campus.

    Dedicated Lecturers

The Law School benefits from the outstanding quality of teachers, quite a few of whom have written the books we study or are practitioners who provide insight into the field. Lecturers generally show a high level of dedication to their students, often going out of their way to be accessible to students and to provide help in any way they can. Unfortunately, this high quality is not consistent across the board and student feedback seems to be largely disregarded. The University as a whole has a very dedicated mental health and counselling team, effective policies in place to assist those with disabilities, and a proactive attitude towards sustainability – factors which students generally appreciate as it allows a smoother running of the programme.

However, there is a lack of an effective method of communication, with many students unaware of what happens around the law school. Furthermore, students suffer from strike action on a termly basis due to the University’s inability to reach an effective solution. One key area students face issues with is marking, with allegations of racial bias running rampant and anger at the lack of a ‘remark’ policy, leading to delayed graduation for most.

Overall, the programme benefits from very dedicated lecturers for most, but not all, modules. The Law programme would receive a higher rank if the University as a whole would listen to students and fix issues that have existed before I started the course in 2019.

    Law at City University

The lectures and staff are great at explaining content clearly. The students are a nice community too, everybody is friendly and there’s a good diversity of the UK and abroad students. The experience is great, lots of societies and opportunities like mooting, debating competitions. The only thing I’d say the university needs to improve on is offering exam support in tutorials/lectures as this is something many students need.

Decent, but not what I was expecting

There are some really wonderful lecturers/module leaders and the facilities provided are really nice especially the new law building, however, the running of the Law school is very questionable at times.

Since the pandemic they have introduced a cluster system for electives despite this never being a part of the programme initially, the free choice being a key reason why I chose to study at City.

And more importantly, I feel as though not enough has been done to ensure student safety this year regarding the pandemic, the use of face masks is very limited and there has been a return of on-campus lectures without the option of prerecorded ones for students who feel unsafe attending lectures but would still like to attend in-person tutorials.

The careers team are very helpful and provide a lot of useful insight in improving your CV, cover letter etc.
