Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.
Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.
After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.
Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.
The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.
In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.
A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.
Studying at METU might be the biggest achievement in my life. In terms of socializing, everyone can find a student club or event that attracts them somehow. There is always something to do in METU.I feel like home when I’m on campus. I join international student clubs, sport activities etc. From the academic aspect, although I think METU could not handle with pandemic very well, our academics are really experienced and they want to transfer their knowledge to us in the best way, at least in my department 🙂
View moreI really love the campus METU has. It is very big and it is surrounded by forests which makes me feel closer to nature. I live in a dorm that is inside the campus (which is very practical and cheap for a student) and if I want I can easily live without going outside the campus for a really long time.
I’m happy with the facilities like the cafeteria and the library. The cafeteria offers meals 2 times a day for a really cheap price and the library is open 24/7 on the finals week. The only problem is that the capacity for these facilities is inadequate. Also, I think it would be better if the buildings are renewed.
View moreTurkey compared to its competitors in terms of university graduates find it easier to do business. It deserves another plus with its social activities on campus. But I do not think that education is sufficient. For the second time as a student studying a bachelor’s degree at METU, I still can’t speak English properly. Although I can use academic English, I cannot use it in everyday life. For this, non-graded (because note anxiety causes stress and hinder speech) I think there should be lessons with speaking tables. Another issue related to education is the lack of practical courses. The level of knowledge remains theoretical in most sections. It is very good to have internship opportunities or practical courses arranged by more universities. Another subject, teachers. In general, they like to help students, but of course, there are those who do not. Also I think there is very weak career guidance. Graduates find jobs with their own means.
View moreIf you are expecting a nice and big campus, lots of student communities and having a nice time while you are in school Metu is great. But as a psychology student I can say that some of the professors are not competent and content of the lectures are often insufficient.
View moreAcademic staff is competent. There are lots of campus facilities. Education is satisfactory. available areas are not adequate for total number of students. Education system is aimed to inform students about diverse fields of the discipline.
View moreMETU is a wonderful university based upon its rankings as well as faculty. Professors and teachers from all over the world, graduating from leading universities make up the teaching force in this university. The campus is at a premium location in the heart of the city and is utterly gorgeous. As an international student, I do not face hurdles with the language in the student body as the rigorous English teaching system and prep school they offer prepares all students to be fluent in the language. The professors are ever warm and welcome to all inquiries, with few exceptions. While not rampant, it is possible to face discrimination from professors due to being an international student. Moreover, the ratio of international students to local students is quite low which could result in one feeling left out or out of place. I am currently the only international student of my batch in the department of Psychology.
Additionally, the housing provided by the university is not of high standards and neither is the common cafeteria meals. Curfew hour is also exercised which in my opinion undermines the students.
