The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) was founded in 1989. The school has an amazing location. It is based in the Autonomous Region of the Canary Islands in Spain. The learning environment is perfect for students, as they get to experience the wonderful landscape, while also being close to tourist attractions. Speaking of students- at the moment, the university is home to more than 25,000 students. The faculty is made up of 1,500 highly qualified industry professionals, who are eager to pass on their knowledge and provide students with valuable insights of their chosen field of expertise. The campus consists of state-of-the-art facilities and modern equipment, with Wi-Fi in all of its centres. The renowned school offers a wide range of degree programmes in a variety of fields. It is also a well-known e-learning provider, THE e-learning provider in Gran Canaria! Degree and Master programmes, as well as numerous courses at all levels, are offered online. Diversity and Internationalization are important parts of studying at ULPGC. The university has signed agreements with other academic institutions from the five continents, to be able to host teachers, researchers, students, and administrative staff from all over the world, and in addition to that, send them to its exchange partners, so that they can gain a truly global outlook. Student life at ULPGC is never dull, as the universities offers a wide range of cultural and sports activities, to promote team work and solidarity, as well as social justice, gender equality and respect for diversity, making studying at ULPGC a safe and welcoming learning environment. The school is consistently ranked highly and has won the Quality Award for Public Service and Special Mention for Best Management Practices (from the Government of the Canary Islands in 2017). in 2010, the school earned the qualification of Campus of International Excellence from the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain.
I think it is a great program but can be amazing if you do emphasize music theory, not in the daily use of a laptop but by means of traditional music, the rules and techniques. This knowledge in relation to IT could be interesting for young people.
View moreThe professors of this university are not motivated, which demotivates the students and takes away their desire to learn. The treatment is very impersonal since the classes are overcrowded and it is not that the teachers care about the academic (or general) well-being of the students. The only good thing about this university is the cafeteria and its staff, which at least brightens your day after such a boring day. It would be nice if they considered joining the campuses in the same place, and promoting university life through activities or clubs.
View moreThe University of Las Palmas has many flaws in my opinion. At the teaching level, it is terrible, very poorly prepared staff who limit themselves to reading the presentations. In addition, the classes are overcrowded and it is very difficult to have personal and academic treatment. As for university life, it is very difficult to meet people because the campuses are very scattered and do not carry out activities to promote the atmosphere. The facilities leave much to be desired, being very poorly equipped. In general, I would not recommend this university.
View moreI think it is necessary to emphasize that it is a career in which there are very good teachers, who teach from the heart. They are very good because they teach with joy but they also have a lot of experience in the practice of the subjects they teach, which enriches learning. It is also true that there are teachers who lack the vocation to teach and make the students dislike some subjects that can be very interesting.
On the other hand, from my point of view, the degree is quite poorly organized, with too much theory and little practice. In addition, there are many obsolete subjects, where things are given that are no longer necessary. It is a program anchored in the past.
Yes, I would recommend the degree, but it is true that there are many things to improve, and first of all, they have to change the study plan. That is essential.
Studying at ULPGC is not bad. We have a variety of programs, some of them with better teachers than others. The campus is really nice, outside the city, full of trees and vegetation. There is not so much student life because of Covid but you can meet people at the cafeteria.
View moreI’ve been at ULPGC as a Erasmus student for half a year and I can highly recommend the university! I never had problems with the Organisation system, it’s quite modern (after the registration you can do everything online without any problem) and offers you access to the presentations from the classes, your schedule, the library and the wide range of extracurricular activities. You can participate in many sport and cultural activities, from weekly activities, a gym up to excursions on the weekend. The faculty of veterinary is well equipped and wonderfully located next to the sea (only disadvantage is that it’s outside town, so you have to go by bus approx. 20min). As an Erasmus student you don’t have any problem to find accommodation, either you search a shared flat on your own or you live in one of the universities student residencies. There are many Erasmus students coming to ULPGC each year, so you’ll always find international students and many events offered for them (which you can also join as local students :)). Most of the classes are held in Spanish, and it depends on the professor if they can/ want to speak English to you, so it’s definitively easier if you know some Spanish. To conclude, I really enjoyed my time there and I would recommend studying there, not only for the obvious advantages (sun, beach) but also for the university itself!
View moreI studied law and business and it’s not structured and you must to organize your university plan to do possible.__Teachers were not taking in account different methodologies and they were doing classical lectures all time. If you can don’t come.
View moreThe University is in an amazing place, especially for foreign students. The academic level can be good or not because it depends on the teacher (there are many old professors that must be reviewed). The facilites are usually fine, with many places to study. The university could improve by updating its technologies (WiFi quality, computers, new tools) and its contact with companies for students, within Spain and abroad.
View moreThe University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria is a good university, has good buildings and good internal stuff but some teachers are so bad and they need to renovate some of them.
It’s a good university for erasmus students because the life in the island is cheap, the weather is always nice and all the years there are a lot of them.
Very nice laboratory, but not super nice teachers, few of them are amazing but unfortunately it is not the majority. Faculty is nice with a big library so you will never need to buy books and also computer rooms available for students.
You can join a lot of activities organized by the university or by AEGEE-Las Palmas (students association) like surfing, hiking routes, language exchanges…
