The University is in an amazing place, especially for foreign students. The academic level can be good or not because it depends on the teacher (there are many old professors that must be reviewed). The facilites are usually fine, with many places to study. The university could improve by updating its technologies (WiFi quality, computers, new tools) and its contact with companies for students, within Spain and abroad.
The University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria is a good university, has good buildings and good internal stuff but some teachers are so bad and they need to renovate some of them.
It’s a good university for erasmus students because the life in the island is cheap, the weather is always nice and all the years there are a lot of them.
Very nice laboratory, but not super nice teachers, few of them are amazing but unfortunately it is not the majority. Faculty is nice with a big library so you will never need to buy books and also computer rooms available for students.
You can join a lot of activities organized by the university or by AEGEE-Las Palmas (students association) like surfing, hiking routes, language exchanges…
IN: I consider that in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) you can find a very good people and interesting proffesors, as well as a ” well-provided ” Campus. However, the ULPGC is calling for paying too much, put a lot of difficulties to study and follow the rules as long as it earns money (overwhelming rates); when ULPGC have to give you back some money (eg rate return) it is its best to give you back to a thing. In addition, the bureaucratic diligences are always too slow and tiring.
ES: I think that at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) you can find very good people and interesting teachers, as well as a “well-equipped” campus. However, the ULPGC demands that you pay excessively, it makes you very difficult to study and follows the rules as long as you earn money (overwhelming fees); when the ULPGC has to give you back some money (eg refund of fees), you insist on not giving anything at all. Further. the bureaucratic diligences are always slow and tedious.
To access the ULPGC there is a great competitiveness among high school students who want to access it, especially in the careers of the branch of health sciences. The level of the university is very good and has a high academic level recognized by the ANECA. Its facilities differ a lot from the typical university one imagines (large buildings, many and facilities, large libraries, etc.) but it makes it a familiar and close environment. I would recommend everyone to come to know and study in it, because due to its characteristics makes it unique and unmatched.
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a good university but could improve the management and rates of the subjects. They put a lot of difficulties to continue studying and each subject that you do not approve is more expensive. They should give more scholarships to study and not make things so difficult. The facilities are well maintained and it is a fairly central and quiet area.
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has more than one Campus, my opinion is just based in my experience at the Campus where I studied my Teacher Training Degree. I consider the University is just good enough to get the University Degree and needs to improve a few things to actually consider it is a good place; the buildings could be better, my main class had almost no space for all the students and a big pillar in the middle of the room so if you were sitting behind that you couldn’t see the teacher or the board. I studied Music Education and I believe that some teachers need to update themselves a bit, some music lessons were very boring for example, the teacher made videos for practising and that’s all we did during the sessions, every single day, didn’t have any interest at all in improving the teaching method. After 3 years playing music I learned just very basics, and don’t find myself confident enough to teach Music with the music level a Music Teacher should have (play an instrument with confidence and being able to improvise in playing music). The material, in this case the instruments, many were old and some of them not very well treated, the piano was missing 1 or 2 keys! Some teachers really made the difference and we still learned things, a subject related to Special Education was very difficult and hard exams, our teacher Rosa Marchena was an amazing teacher so every single lesson was really interesting and we learned something every day, she made it easy and very motivating for us to learn, pass and enjoy the subject. It is a lovely Degree to study, very busy as well because students need to do lots of group activities, so they spend a lot of time in the Campus. The library was Ok, not very big but quiet, if you need a hand with finding a book somebody would help you with no problem, If they didn’t have a book, you could order it and get it delivered to the library. The computers were a bit old and slow, you could borrow laptops but the University needs to buy new ones as these were very old, the battery didn’t last long and you had to work with the laptop plugged. The opening times of the library were very short considering how long the students need to be studying, instead they had a few classes open 24 hours, I did like them because they were very quiet and almost no one was in there during the evening or night time, but if you were going you had to be the first one so you could get the big table (the teacher’s table) otherwise you would end up in one of those chairs with a little “Table” in one of the arms or the chair.
In general, it is a backward University, needs to spend some money to improve, the teachers are ok, some of them amazing and some of the miserables, some of them would be happy to help you and some of them ignore you. If you want to study a Teaching Degree you can study it here and everything will be Ok, but If you have the chance I would advice you to find another University with more and better sources.
Una de las mejores universidades sin lugar a dudas.
Bien equipada, continuamente mejorando sistemas y materiales. Accesible para discapacitados, fácil comunicación del servicio de transporte público, ….
Casi toda la universidad está centralizada en Tafira, salvo algunas facultades que están en Las Palmas y una en Arucas.
