What Is an Art and Design Degree?

It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.

Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.

Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.

Benefits of an Art and Design Degree

Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.

In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.

Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.

Art and Design Degree Structure

Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.

The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.

    Strong Sense Of Community

One of the turning points in my professional experience was earning my BCom in Human Resource Management from the University of Pretoria in 2013. With UP’s stellar academic reputation and cutting-edge approach to education, my studies gave me a strong foundation in HRM and the information and abilities I required to be successful in the industry.

The HRM program at UP was comprehensive and practical, covering a wide range of topics from recruitment and selection to employee relations and strategic HRM. The curriculum was designed to be relevant to the current industry trends and challenges, ensuring that graduates were well-prepared for the demands of the workplace.

One of the most valuable aspects of studying HRM at UP was the opportunity to interact with industry professionals and experts through guest lectures, workshops, and networking events. These interactions not only provided valuable insights into the field but also helped me build a professional network that has been invaluable in my career.

The faculty members at UP were highly experienced and dedicated to student success. They not only imparted knowledge but also challenged us to think critically and develop innovative solutions to HRM issues. Their mentorship and guidance were instrumental in shaping my understanding of HRM and preparing me for the challenges of the industry.

UP’s campus was a vibrant and dynamic environment, with a strong sense of community among students and faculty. The campus facilities were modern and well-equipped, providing a conducive learning environment. The university also offered a range of extracurricular activities and support services to enhance the student experience.

In conclusion, my experience studying HRM at the University of Pretoria was incredibly rewarding. It provided me with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue a successful career in HRM. I am proud to be a graduate of UP and am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped my career.

    bad administration

This university’s administration is the worst I’ve ever dealt with. A system error was automatically generated by the system as an application result. After a month of nonstop emails (from my end) demonstrating the issue, I just got a reply with a fresh email informing me. For the past four months, the Uni has not responded, and the problem has not been fixed.

    Excellent service

I highly recommend the University of Pretoria due to their excellent service towards the students and ensuring that students are always set up for success. The University of Pretoria provides multiple study materials and online and contact consultation sessions for the students if a student is struggling to grasp the work. The University of Pretoria is also open to working out a payment plan if money is a problem. This means that the university really does believe in empowering South African youth through education.
