Studying for my BCom in Quantitative Risk Management, with a focus on Actuarial Science, at North-West University was a pivotal step in my academic and professional journey. Having graduated in 2012, I want to provide a smart review for those considering this program at NWU.
The program offers a rigorous curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical application. Courses cover a wide range of topics including risk assessment, financial modeling, and statistical analysis. This comprehensive approach equips students with the skills needed to analyze and manage risk in various industries.
One of the program’s key strengths is its faculty. Professors are not only experts in their fields but also actively engaged in research and industry practice. Their insights and guidance provide students with a solid foundation in quantitative risk management and actuarial science.
Another highlight of the program is the emphasis on experiential learning. NWU has strong ties to industry, providing students with internship and networking opportunities. These real-world experiences are invaluable for gaining practical skills and building professional connections.
The campus life at NWU is vibrant, with a range of extracurricular activities and student organizations. This creates a dynamic learning environment where students can develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers, and engage with the broader community.
All in all, studying for my BCom in Quantitative Risk Management, Actuarial Science at NWU was a challenging yet rewarding experience. It prepared me well for a career in risk management and actuarial science, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to pursue a similar path.
View moreThe university is very inclusive and has a dynamic culture which seeks to be beneficial to all. My only issue with the university was the fact that it’s Afrikaans dominant but overall it’s a great place to learn
View moreI love how contact classes are conducted because I learn a lot better than in online classes. The lectures are always available to help, it doesn’t matter the time and everyone I’ve met on campus including the staff they were kind enough to help me with anything including directions to classes since I didn’t know my classes at first. I love everything about NWU.
