There is a very high standard of academic excellence at Wits. I am studying Medicine, and in 3rd year the pass mark is 60%. I like this because it means that the doctors Wits produces will know more than half of what they were taught, at the minimum. However, the flipside of this emphasis on academics means that we don’t get to experience the practical aspects of Medicine until further in our studies, which is different to how other universities do things, so I would like to have more hands-on experience sooner in the course.
