at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities

Hi. My name is Gaziz Zhaksylyk, I’m 25 years old. I was born and grew up in the town of Kaskelen, Almaty region. My school years passed within the walls of Gymnasium named after Zhubanysh Baribayev for children.

Alma mater for me is the Kazakh-Turkish College in Almaty where I studied Translation studies (English-Arabic languages). Additionally, I spent 1 semester in Corum city, Turkey as a exchange student. At the moment I am studying under the Bachelor’s degree “English Studies” at the SWPS University in Warsaw (the main areas are English, media and economics).

Why did I decide to enter a foreign university? Having the experience of living in the Turkey behind me, I wanted to continue my studies abroad, but at that moment the circumstances were different. Realizing that languages is my mission and having received a college grant for studying in Turkey, I successfully applied my knowledge and skills at work as a translator. Despite this, over time, it became clear that the realities of business and my demands for self-became higher, so the need to expand the field of professional knowledge has matured. So the idea of entering a foreign university was born.

The first stage of my training was the search for the necessary training program, as well as the timing of the filing of documents.I used different websites, which had search base for programs for international students. I found a program at the SWPS University and decided that the documents should be submitted no later than August 30. In the specified period, collected and sent by e-mail the list of necessary documents for admission. In general, this list is standard and includes certified copies of diplomas of education, motivation letter, as well as certificates of knowledge of the language of instruction. In my case, I sent a certificate of delivery of IELTS. The process did not take much time, as I already had certified translations of all documents, as well as the result of the delivery of IELTS. The final results were announced in the middle of September.

In SWPS University I appreciate people who help and support each other. When I first entered, I did not have any friends in the foreign country. I was very worried about this, however professors and teachers at the university with great experiences changed my vision and became my friends whom I can share what I think. Qualified teachers, good infrastructure and perfect environment had a great impact on me. Also, I made lots of friends from different backgrounds. And for me these are very important and valuable. Moreover, I have been nominated by the EU and SWPS University to study in Istanbul under the Erasmus+ program which made my academic journey unforgettable and more interesting. Thank you, SWPS.

At the moment I have finished the theoretical training program, ahead – writing a bachelor’s thesis. Good luck for me 🙂
