The TU Dresden is the largest university in Saxony and one of the 10 largest universities in Germany. It is a public research university with more than 37,000 students. The university is the largest institute of higher education in Dresden. The TU Dresden is a member of TU9 and succeeded in Excellence Initiative in 2012, having the title of “University of Excellence”. It is ranked as one of the best universities worldwide for engineering and technology, top 100 worldwide, top 30 in Europe and top 10 in Germany.

TU Dresden is a good university! In my personal experience the teaching quality is (mostly) high even though it’s not quite on the level of most international elite universities. The campus and the city are nice and the costs of living are extremely low. The bureaucracy is sometimes slow and troublesome, however, not worse than at many other unis. I would recommend TU Dresden, especially for an undergraduate degree. I can also highly recommend the International Relations program. On the other hand, I would not choose it for any other social sciences degree, except economics. The directorate’s support is clearly with the technical studies and departments, while neglecting others.
The university is one of the ten best universities in Germany. With a very close connection to the industry and well equipped labs the university surely provides a wide variety of engineering courses. The university also provides non-engineering courses which also popular in the Europe. The medicine faculty is also one of the best in the whole country in terms of research and services. Loads of international coming to the university either doing their Erasmus or whole bachelor/master degree. Courses are also provided in English. Many student organisations are also active in the university.
I genuinely enjoy studying at TU Dresden. Many of my classes are held by well known professors and we regularly have high-level guest talks. The facilities are excellent with spacious libraries and access to many resources. I particularly enjoy the various opportunities for social life and engagement in different student associations and the events constantly organized on campus and in the city. The mensa is always worth visiting! The university is really close to the city center and the main station.
