The university is divided into several different faculties, the Hochschüle fur Politik (HfP), is located in the heart of Munich and is a stunning facility to study at. Its facilities & amenities are extensive and modern, with vibrant open study spaces – far nicer than a traditionally dark & gloomy library. The programme is extremely interdisciplinary, meaning people from various academic backgrounds can find suitable areas. For example, my classmates consisted of social science, humanities and civil engineering graduates, and a wide range of courses are offered for students to partake in. Further, as an international student, I felt very supported and comfortable as soon as I started the course – with a large International student cohort you would expect the university to be adept at managing international students, nevertheless, it was positive to feel at home at TUM so quickly. Unfortunately, my personal experience as a student living and studying in Munich was cut short by Covid, but in the time I got before Covid started the student experience was excellent and much better than during my previous studies for my bachelor’s degree.
In general, the course has been excellent. All the modules I have taken are interesting & well structured, and the university adapted excellently to the change to hybrid/remote learning during Covid, providing extensive online learning materials and ensuring that students were supported throughout the course of the pandemic, and continue to be to this day. My only real point of contention is regarding the university administration – registering for courses and exams can be quite confusing and time-consuming, however, if one is struggling there are plenty of administrative staff on hand to help with any issues. It is also worth noting that accommodation is notoriously difficult to find in Munich, and prospective students should start looking as early as possible in order to secure a place. Careers’ support is also very good, and I feel confident in my employment prospects moving forward. Overall, I would highly recommend TUM to any prospective students.
