Whether to choose CUHK for your studies or not really depends on what your plans are. CUHK is developing itself as a research university and that means that teaching may not be the number one priority of your professors (publishing and successfully completing research projects is). You should also be comfortable with hierarchy and bureaucracy – don’t expect to call your teachers by their first name, and brace for a campus tour to get 5 signatures on every form that needs submitting. That said, the facilities are very good with a state-of-the-art new library (that will even loan you a MacBook charger!) & interlibrary loan system (includes all university libraries in Hong Kong), as well as e.g. a bank and shops on campus. CUHK is also a great choice if you plan to study abroad, whether at bachelor, master, or postgrad-level; there is an extensive list of partner universities and some interesting scholarships are available. Finally, it is important to realize that the campus (indeed the most beautiful in Hong Kong) is not located in Hong Kong’s urban area. Though only a 45 min. a train ride away, if you’re after the busy high-rise Hong Kong experience, you may need to think twice. Recommended for people who see studying as a priority and can cope with hierarchy & red tape.
