There are many wonderful benefits to getting your education at UBC, like the well-known beautiful campus, the prestige of going to the second best university, etc. but a major highlight of my time here has been the wonderful professors. Almost all of my professors have been extremely engaging, helpful, and knowledgeable about the topic being taught. The passion they have for said topic is easily felt as a student, and is genuinely inspiring. That being said, the profs do not make up the university. UBC has a plethora of internal issues, such as fluctuating financial assistance and terrible housing assistance. This year, there has also been an influx of protests as a result of thousands of dollars being pulled from the low cost food initiatives run on campus. The reason stated for the shut down of two of these programs was that they were not making enough profit, which is extremely frustrating to student who relied on the low cost food to stay healthy and fed. That being said, another highlight of the university is the students. Yes, there are issues within the UBC board, etc. but there is also a whole campus full of driven activists who have repeatedly made important change across Vancouver. I definitely do recommend getting your education here; you will graduate with the tools needed to navigate the modern world.
