KU Leuven is an amazing school. The wide-range of courses and the high calibre of instruction is complemented by plentiful resources for students and a lovely, peaceful student town. I have professors who are at the top of their fields, many of whom are also performing important roles in the Belgium and EU government systems. Students come from around the world to study here, so you get a truly international experience. The Belgium grading system is a bit tough – be prepared to study hard!
The cost of living in Leuven is quite affordable, though you do need to be able to handle a lot of cloudy and rainy days (and get used to carrying an umbrella). Well-equipped libraries, study centers, and coffeeshops provide great places to study. When you’re ready for a break, the Belgian beers are the best in the world and the cafes that serve them abound. Nearly everywhere in the town is easily accessible by a short bike ride, so make a bicycle one of your first purchases.
