    Low Cost Driven Students

I go to Denison on a pretty significant scholarship. Most students I know are able to go to Denison because of their really nice financial aid packages. Online you might read about sports being a big part of school culture but that’s only if you seek it out. Mostly people attend because of the emphasis on academics and the career resources the university offers. Alumni networking and peer advice/connections are how most end up with their jobs out of college. Location can be a little isolating after a few years but if you have a car or know a few people who have cars, there are short trips to major cities nearby which makes it worth it. I don’t see myself at any other school and think it has been perfect for me as a low-income student who has had a lot of opportunities (studying abroad, double majoring, student work-study, lots of additional scholarships and help) all made possible by the administration and professors I have at school. Totally recommend!

    Life on the Hill

Situated in the college town of Granville, Denison University is perfect for students who are looking for a sense of community on campus. This small liberal arts college creates a home away from home as all students are required to live on campus for all four years. Due to this, Denison creates a unique and close-knit community. It is the type of campus where you know enough people to feel like you belong there but not enough to feel smothered by familiar faces. The size of the school offers a lot of one-on-one time with professors, you are not just a number at Denison. Denison also does not have any graduate students which means that all of the opportunities that arrive at Denison’s door are given directly to the undergraduate students.
As a cinema and French major, I have had many opportunities whilst studying at Denison. One of which was to participate in the IFE Paris study abroad program, where I went to Paris for a semester and interned on the film Murder Mystery 2 (starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler) and the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris. It goes without saying that this was my dream internship. I was able to improve my French whilst working on two major Netflix productions, gaining invaluable experience in my chosen industry.
Student life at Denison is vibrant and fun with hundreds of on-campus clubs that you can get involved in. I am a member of The Burpees Seedy Theatrical Company, an improved group on campus that has alumni such as Steve Carell. Denison is also home to four acapella groups. When I first stepped on campus, I thought that someone had dropped me in one of the Pitch Perfect movies. However, a lot of the nightlife at Denison is dominated by Greek life. Many of the parties are thrown by fraternities. There are also formals that occur throughout both semesters that you are unable to attend until after a certain hour unless you are invited.
Although the college town of Granville is what helps give Denison its close community, it can also be its downfall. There is not much that students can do within walking distance and often at night people living in Granville can get quite annoyed at any noise if the students go to bars or are having parties in their rooms. The city of Columbus is only 50 minutes away, however, if you don’t drive or are looking to go to bars this can be more hassle than it is worth as an uber normally costs around $50 there and back, sometimes it is more. This often leads to a lot of students feeling trapped on the hill.
Regardless, I love Denison and I would definitely recommend it to other people who are looking for a home away from the home college experience, with lots of opportunities and clubs to get involved in.
