Overall I thought MMU was a good university especially being a masters student. I felt the majority of the staff were approachable and friendly enough that when I needed advice I felt comfortable to do so. I also feel like I got a lot of insight into how life could be following the degree as the university provided a substantial amount of information as to what our next steps could be.

I chose to continue my university career at Manchester Metropolitan University, following my BSC there. I already knew that the University was a great university filled with staff and tutors that would help me get to where I wanted to be, but it was really in my master’s course that I saw how great Manchester is. Manchester Metropolitan University gave me the resources, knowledge, and support needed to excel in my field. Manchester is a city that has a lot of culture and excellent nightlife, which I didn’t really get to explore in my undergraduate career but was one of the things that was the highlight of my master’s degree. The location of the university was ideal, and I felt like I was at the center of everything. I really enjoyed my master’s degree, and I loved the topic, and I was also really good at it. I found the experience of being a postgraduate student at Manchester Metropolitan University to be incredibly rewarding. I really like the way that they structured their course, and I was glad that there were no exams. This did mean the coursework was delayed more than normal. I guess, but at the end of the day, if you did well on the coursework, you got a good grade overall. With no exams, the coursework had to be of the highest quality in order to get a good grade, which was something that I found incredibly beneficial. I really didn’t like the fact that I had to do a presentation as part of my dissertation, but that’s because I really struggle with presenting and public speaking, but overall I still got an okay grade. Even though I was initially apprehensive about the prospect of having to give a presentation, the support from my friends and mentors, coupled with the passion I had for my dissertation topic, helped me overcome my anxieties. I really loved the topic, and then I found myself really coming out of my shell during this time. I also made some really great friends that I will hold onto for the rest of my life. Nevertheless, I was able to make the most of this experience and find it immensely rewarding.

Overall, the university is decent in regards to the course. I wouldn’t say it’s the best university however, I wouldn’t say it’s the worst. One thing I like about it is that the course is extremely interesting to me and just learning the content has been fascinating. On the other hand, as I am a commuter I have been struggling with the social aspect and have not made many friends which makes my time at the university a lot more lonely and demotivating. I would recommend the university for those that are willing to stay in accommodation as that way they can make friends easier and adapt socially however, I do not recommend going to the university as someone who has to commute there as it will be a lot harder to make friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed studying at this university and found their way of teaching, insightful and enjoyable. They offer classroom teaching instead of lectures which feels more intimate and as though we are on the same level as the professors.

Despite my initial reservations regarding attending this university for my MSc, after attending the University of Manchester for my undergraduate, I now never want to leave. I had heard whispers about what sort of university it was and previously attending the University of Manchester did not help. They had prided themselves on being a Russel Group and not much else which meant that students were left unsupported with judgemental staff. This was a stark contrast I immediately noticed when I started at Manchester Metropolitan University in September of 2021. The staff there feel more on your level and less as though they are looking down their nose at you. They are always there for you to go to and offer unwavering support and guidance. I enjoyed this university so much that I am looking towards doing a PhD here, just so I can remain in the safe arms of MMU.
