This is a great course if you are interested in media and the process behind communication within it. It is quite a light course in terms of the intensity of the coursework covered.
The Roeterisland campus is in the heart of Amsterdam and accessible from any side of Amsterdam. During the first year, you average about 2 lectures and 2 tutorial classes a week alongside weekly homework and assignments. The lecturers in the course are very young and enthusiastic while also having great know how on the subject. This is a great way to meet people from all over the world as this course runs alongside the Dutch track of comm science, so you will be put in with international students.
The programme offers a good balance between collaborative work such as group projects and also individual work like assignments and homework. It’s a very relevant course in today’s society as it explores today’s world of online community.
There is a very young group of professors who are very well educated and teach with great motivation and can relate to the students.
The Roeterseiland Campus is a modern campus that has state of the art facilities and is in a very central location.
Overall I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in getting a job related to the online world.
After my 3 years studying communication science, I have touched upon various areas related to communications. From marketing to corporate communication, entertainment to research, & philosophy to statistics, I believe that this study program gave me the opportunity to touch upon all the various aspects in which communication can be required in future careers and that truly helped me find and filter out the areas that looked interesting and appealing to me. This is especially helpful when one might not know for sure what aspect of communication they would like to specialize in. In addition, the minors offered throughout this program are also very complimentary of the main study program and allow for a more in-depth exploration of one of the many areas linked to communication. Overall, I can confidently say that this study program has allowed me to find which side of communications interest me the most, and this will be not only beneficial in terms of choosing a masters degree, but is also a fundamental basis for any future career orientations.
View moreCourses are very quantitative- research-based and connected to renowned research institutions. Good to learn theories and methodologies with a focus on learning SPSS skills
If you are not interested in research/ marketing, it’s a bad future prospective
I very much enjoy my program. Although a high degree of commitment is required, all the programs are equally challenging and enjoyable. All courses give me an extensive amount of tools to fulfil my potential, but they do not overcommit in their offer of help, letting you make mistakes and then teaching you how to correct them. In that sense, I very much enjoy the balance of freedom and expectation for the university.
View moreI would recommend my programme because it is very international, well structured and the courses are very interesting. The facilities of the university are very good as well as the location and the majority of the teachers.
View moreThe teachers are amazing. They really want to help you so they are always there for you. We also learn how to apply all the concepts we learn to the real word which is really helpful for when you actually start working.
View moreStudying Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam has been an interesting but worthwhile experience. The course, while certainly demanding is more than manageable if you are able to plan your time appropriately and meet the necessary deadlines. A wide selection of topics are discussed and taught within the first year alone and although I cannot say that I was engaged by all of them, my biggest complaint with many is that they did not go deep enough into the content of the courses. The lecturers and teachers are generally very engaged in the subject with the subject they are teaching and if something occasionally falls short it is generally student participation in the classroom. Despite this, the students I have met are generally hardworking and attentive to their studies and impress me with the dedication they have in both their studies and whatever other activities they may be preoccupied with. Overall, I consider the Communication Science program to be worthwhile if you are either interested in the subject or still trying to figure out what you want to do later on in life and are willing to put in the work.
View moreI really liked the curriculum and the fact that a vast majority of students had international backgrounds. I think that the University does a good job in integrating and monitoring international students, which is scarce in public universities.
View moreThe University of Amsterdam is known for its great teachers/lecturers across its many different faculties. Especially for the faculty that I am a part of, the faculty of social and behavioural sciences is known for being one of the absolute best in the world, and with good reason. Professional lecturers who have written some of the most referenced research papers within their field. It is not only the lecturers that make the university great. It has a great student environment with study and student associations that frequently host fun and interesting events. The location of the campus is also great, located in the city centre of Amsterdam.
