    Life on the Vera campus

This is not a review of any specific degree. It’s about what life is like on the Vera campus.

The agora is the centre of the campus. In it, you will find a large part of the cafeterias/restaurants where you can have lunch, eat and even have a few beers with your classmates. In addition, there is also the pharmacy, bookstores, the bank, reprographics and the general library, although all schools have their own libraries and even reprographics.

But it is that two minutes from the agora is the jewel in the crown of the campus, the student’s house. The student’s house is a building exclusively for students whose ground floor is mainly used for making meals, as it has vending machines and microwaves. It also has a computer room, leisure and restrooms with sofas and table football, a terrace, etc. That is, the student’s house is suitable both for eating, for disconnecting and for meeting your friends to do work. Also in that area is the swimming pool, the soccer field and the athletics and gym, which the truth is that it has very affordable prices for students.

I have to admit that the Vera campus is quite large, but everything that I have mentioned above is quite close to each other, so the times that a teacher has been absent, as that area was close to my school, the truth is that always I found something to do. In addition to that, from time to time, races or small events are scheduled for designated dates.

I believe that in order to enjoy university life, having a good campus is essential, and Vera’s from the UPV actually met all my expectations.

Food science and technology at the UPV

A couple of years ago I graduated as a food technologist. I have to admit that taking it at this university generates a certain prestige, at least in the Valencia Community, since companies rely a lot on the education given at the UPV.

Regarding the degree, although the first year is somewhat heavy because the subjects are mostly fundamentals, as the semesters pass you begin to see the subjects more focused on areas that may attract you, such as food quality or chemical or physical analysis among others. In addition, all the subjects have a practical part, either in laboratories or in seminars, which makes it easier to apply what has been learned and to know the operation of the different types of laboratories.

It is true that this degree does not have a specific specialization in one area, but like so many others, if there really is a specific part of food technology that calls you more, it is enough to take a master’s degree or course focused on it since the base main you get it in the degree.

It must be taken into account that the UPV requires at least a B2 level in a foreign language to obtain the title, therefore, this career in its program has a subject in the last year that allows you to validate your knowledge in B2 English and facilitate obtaining the degree if you do not have an external certification that accredits it.

To finish, I want to say that the Vera campus, where the degree is taught, is very well equipped, since there are various places to eat, gym, tennis court, swimming pool, bookstore, pharmacy, bank, etc., in addition to many green spaces.

Take a master's degree in pandemic

In the 2020-2021 academic year, I took the university master’s degree in quality management and food safety. I must say that this master was taught mainly online, since we only went to the university for exams and some laboratory practice. In this sense, I can say that the UPV has sufficient means to face another similar situation, so the pandemic practically did not alter the study plan.

Focusing on the master, something that I did not like very much is that there are many subjects, since these are worth few credits. This forces you to take quite a few subjects, making you take some that don’t interest you and making others shorter in which, from my point of view, it would be necessary to delve more deeply, such as those dedicated to quality management systems and food safety volunteers. In any case, the basic subjects of the master’s degree are studied in-depth, such as those for the HACCP system, which is also very enjoyable thanks to the teachers who teach it.

I would like to emphasize that this master’s degree has an internship subject, which can be done in companies or focused on research, as it could be in the UPV laboratories. In addition, it has a series of credits to carry out extracurricular internships, so this master’s degree really helps you get closer to the world of work, making it possible to get a job in the company where you do the internship.

    High quality university

If you are looking for a university with a lot of relations with companies this is your place.
It has a great education deal, mostly engineering, but also science, arts and business administration.
Is not the easiest university, in fact, is quite hard, but you can access many resources like YouTube channel, university web…
I’ll be in my fourth year and I can tell that its huge campus, all the libraries, gym, parks… make easier your life.
