The University of Ibadan being the premier University in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa have over the years maintained good academic performance, this is due to the series of activities both in class and outside class activities lectures get their students to actively perform in, as well as the personal interest of students to finish their degree with a good grade, that’s why on several occasions, University of Ibadan students will want to stay close to their books more than any other things they do
Talking about the relationship between lectures and students, I can say a very healthy relationship exists between the two parties, lecturers want their students to pass well and they try to give in their best and students in return also like to showcase their prowess to their lecturers, you can easily see a student discuss with his or her lecturer about a particular concept in or outside the class without fear.
Down to politics, a very high level of politics is played in the school both by the staff (teaching and non-teaching) and the students. The politics played sometimes put the school at a bad end, my own belief is that if we’ll build better political leaders in Nigeria, the efforts will come from the school setting but the school setting is not also helping. If as a student’s leader, you don’t like what the school administration is doing in what way or the other and/or the students also detest it and complain, you’ll most times either look away or join the side of the school administration and find something cajoling to tell students because of the fear of being queried by the management and there by rusticated or suspended from school. The fact that staff have taken students disciplinary committee as a committee to discipline students who go against the perceived weak policies of the school management makes it impossible to train the kind of leaders Nigeria deserve in the years ahead.
