It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.
Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.
Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.
Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.
In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.
Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.
Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.
The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.
In my personal experience, the program of the University was very interesting and diverse. The professors I had were all very kind, polite and competent in what they were teaching. The infrastructure of the classrooms is actually very different based on what campus you are in, for example, the economic campus is very modern and well kept, whereas the humanistic one is still quite modern but not as well maintained as the economic one. A very good aspect of university life is the various libraries in the city: they are all amazing, very clean and organized as well as modern and with very good internet connections.
The strong point of Ca’ Foscari is for sure its internationality, it has many different University partners around the world and the Erasmus offer is very good and broad.
The administrative office is quite efficient, it really depends on who you’re in contact with of the staff, but the majority of the employees are very kind and keen to help you if you have any problems.
I can say that overall my experience here was very good, I loved what I studied and the environment around me, of course living in Venice is a plus.
This university opens you several doors in one of the unique city in the world. You can take a role in different projects or join many events and workshop to get better network thanks to professors and Career Service.
View moreI study history of art and city like Venice is the perfect place for my studies and interests. The high-quality teaching provided by the University made me choose it again for my Master’s program. The bachelor’s degree in Conservazione dei beni culturali is well structured and it offers general preparation about western art history and a series of complementary subjects such as legislation, museology, literature and so on. The Masters programmes in Storia delle Arti provide specific preparations about an art history period (mediaeval modern and contemporary), with a specific focus on Venetian art history. I find this specialising attitude an extremely valuable way of structuring the program. What I love of Ca’ Foscari is the opportunity to live such a city as your own campus, getting involved in its community, life and culture. Basically I suggest Ca’ Foscari for the high-quality didactic method and preparation, the course structures and the opportunity to live in such a unique environment. Finally, the University is a very dynamic and modern institution in the Italian context and offers a great number of international opportunities such as exchanges and internships.
