I found my way to Algonquin during a challenging period of my life. It was over the pandemic that I decided to apply for the public relations program. As I started the program there was still a lockdown in place in Ottawa, so I had to take my classes online and I was not happy about that. On the other hand, I had fantastic professors that made the online environment friendly and helpful. It made me realize that I had chosen the right program. It is a very hands-on program and I’m learning how to write press releases, organize a communications plan, give speeches, attend media conferences and also run a real charitable campaign with my classmates. _It’s a student-run campaign that allows students to plan events and go from a zero-dollar budget to money for a worthy cause. _There’s engagement with the local community at a professional level. You are able to practice real world situations during the program and you can become a great communicator. Algonquin College exceeded my expectations both taking the lessons online and also when I returned to classes in person. There are several support services offered to students, such as counseling, tutoring, and multiple events. Students can have fun and at the same time pursue a career. It creates a lively an positive atmosphere to students. It welcomes students from different backgrounds and cultures. My experience is greater that I expected.
