Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.
Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.
By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).
Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.
A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.
Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.
This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.
The people, professors, environment and opportunities that I have been awarded with at McGill, are truly unparalleled. Although McGill requires incredible commitment from its students, what you receive in return is a world class education in an incredible, vibrant city, with likeminded individuals and so many professors that care about your future in academia and in the work force, whatever it may look like for you.
View moreHello, I am a recent graduate from McGill university in Montreal Quebec. Montreal is an amazing city full of entertainment and culture, it is hard to have a dull weekend in Montreal. However, my lack of French was a downfall in parts of the outer city. I recommend McGill university for future students as they will have a great time!
View moreMy first year at McGill was online and I did not have a chance to come to the campus. For this reason, I did not know much about McGill, but now I am in my third year. As time goes by I get to explore McGill more. There are many opportunities that they offer and I like my studies here.
View moreOutstanding education, good faculty, and unquestionably a top university, however… the administration and support services are frequently beyond poor, terrible, and unbelievably bad.
Administrative procedures are tangled and Kafkaesque. It could be related to the Quebec Unions that employ them, and their French legacy of bureaucratic apathy, unhelpfulness, and an unwillingness to accomplish their tasks efficiently.
Also, there is a large party culture in Montreal, which is easy to get lost in, yet living there is inexpensive, as is going out.
I’d go back there for an education.
Students are what make McGill so great – the ambience and student life are by far the best in Canada, if not North America, and there is a tremendous diversity of activity that provides a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and interests. The courses are challenging and there are some supports for students – class sizes are quite large and TAs are underresourced. Many facilities could also use a facelift. However, most professors were quite approachable and interesting to talk to.
View moreMcGill and Montreal give you the full experience as a student. Great reputation worldwide, great quality in terms of students and staff. The city is beautiful and fun. Multicultural city. You have the best of the US and Europe.
View moreThe highly international student body, in combination with top quality academics, results in a intensely globally minded university experience. In addition, it is very easy to establish professional relationships with professors, who tend to be among the best in their respective fields. I would highly recommend.
