I have graduated from University of Alberta in 2021. My program – Mathematical Finance – is a real gem established by Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. The academic staff of this program is comprised of experts in various fields of mathematical finance such as Stochastic Analysis, Stochastic Control, Time Series Analysis and also Machine Learning. The latter is especially prominent among top ML programs in the world, not only in the field of Math Finance. Furthermore, the one thing that puts University of Alberta apart from other universities offering similar programs is that it provides a generous funding to the thesis based Masters and PhD students in the form of Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships.
As to the topic of a student’s everyday life, the campus itself has seen a lot of renovations and expansions throughout the last couple of years which certainly makes students’ life much more comfortable. In addition, life in Edmonton, where the campus is based, is a lot cheaper than in other North American cities. But with these perks there comes a catch – it’s really boring to live in Deadmonton 🙂
