KU Leuven so far has earned it’s spot as the number 1 university here in Belgium, the lecture rooms and presentation of everything is spectacular. However, I do believe that the idea of examinations is a dated concept and doesn’t necessarily entail the strengths of a particular student. Unfortunately, KUL relies on examinations as such.
View moreIn terms of selecting a university to come, you have plenty of options. Most of them are considered good choices as Leuven is on of them. Having more than 5 billion euros per year invested in the university, its education system is innovative and appealing to its students. courses are interesting and well taught.
View moreThe only real issue I have is that it still has the old school year format, two semesters and massive exam periods. Adopting a four-quarter system like in the Netherlands would be quite a lot better. Finally, I would recommend this university to others.
View moreI like Ku leuven. the classes are a little bit hard but in general they are very interesting. the campus is very well located. student life is amazing and there are a lot of international students which makes it easier to make friends.
View moreKUL is very demanding, in my experience. You do have to study consistently every day and throughout the BLOCK week to pass and get good scores. On the one hand, it puts students under a lot of pressure. I don’t know a single student who is not pressured or worried, which is not sustainable, so many of them give up. Yet, I also think it might be the university’s strategy to keep only students willing to put in the effort since they accept everyone.
It doesn’t have a wide variety of student clubs if it matters to you. But it does offer other services like a psychologist, workshops, internship fairs, etc.
They don’t take attendance, assignments are rarely graded and don’t play a significant role in your final grade, and there is only one final exam, no midterms. So you have to be very self-disciplined to succeed.
Overall, I like KUL. Although it is challenging, the professors are generally nice and approachable.
View moreCourses are hard and some classes are not well taught, we need more extra curriculars. Nice people tho, also the milestone thing is really bad bcs we don’t have as many opportunities as previous students.
View moreComing from far away, with a different culture, I believe that KUL was a great decision for me. It is a very international faculty with students from everywhere in the world. Even though you may be home sick (which is normal), you will definitely find people from your home country to talk to. The Leuven campus is great and always a great place to party as well
View moreWhen I first came to Belgium, I thought that this university would be special and better than the others due to its high ranking. However, it is pretty much the same with old fashion education merely using PowerPoints and tedtalk lectures.
View moreI am super happy to have applied to this university. I fell like I will have plenty of good opportunities as soon as I finish my bachelor. Teacher have an amazing capacity to increase students enthusiasm and captivate their attention.
View moreMy expectations were higher regarding the examination system. Here, we are evaluated only at the end of the semester, which is worth 100% of my grade. Students do not get the chance to improve their average during the semester. However, the level of education is one of the highest and most difficult in Europe.
